I'd tried several cheap & very cheap pedometers. They were tacky and unreliable. I chose the EX3 because Silva products are usually good, it looked smart and on paper it was the best I could find. It's big selling point was that it would work in ANY pocket and didn't need to be clipped to a belt. It does look smart, but sadly it does NOT work in many of MY pockets. I set it up very carefully and walked a flat, level measured mile in almost exactly 20 mnutes. The EX3 had recorded 0.729 miles, 1360 steps ... and the timer showed I'd been walking for under 12 minutes. (In other words, for 8 minutes and almost 25% of the walk it had not been registering at all.) I swapped it from my side pocket to a hip pocket and walked back over the same mile. This time it read 1.1 miles, 2066 steps in roughly 17 minutes: close to the truth - I mile & 18 minutes - but a long, long way from the first reading.
Around the house, it was hopeless: I'd count 50 paces and the EX3 would show nothing; 10 more paces and it would jump forward 40. With the EX3 in my hand, I could see that it was working only half the time - and then inaccurately.
I shall return it. Maybe all pedometers are the same, I don't know, but to my mind an instrument that is 25%, 30%, even 50% inaccurate is 100% useless.
