"A dazzling musical version of 'Ninotchka' - Irresistible!" > > > > > You'd think chilled borsch pulses in her veins. She's Nina Yoshenka, a lovely yet severe Soviet envoy sent to Paris to rescue wayward comrades from the perils of champagne and capitalism. But there may be a thaw in Nina's Cold War. She meets Steve Canfield, a smoothly brash American who won't take no for an answer. Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse recapture the magic of their "Band Wagon" pairing in this musical based on the same-titled 1955 Broadway hit and the famed 1939 Greta Garbo comedy "Ninotchka". Set to witty Cole Porter tunes, spiked with laughs, and featuring the two leads dancing the Eugene Loring/Hermes Pan choreography into timeless emotion, "Silk Stockings" shows why elegance and fun never to out of style...

Glorious classic movie - with my my co-favourite dancer, Cyd Charisse along with Darcey Bussell. Both dancers warrant the description 'sex on legs'!

The smouldering Cyd Charisse, was Fred Astaire's first partner who was a classically trained ballet dancer - and a perfect match for the brilliant Astaire.

The DVD was coded Region 1 but is also Region 2 compatible - was sent a very fast time, recorded delivery, by David of eddiegaron1977, who is a credit to Amazon - a really fabulous Amazon seller. I am absolutely delighted to have found such an increasingly rare film and the such a fine Amazon marketplace seller.

This was not the last musical film from Fred. Then do one with WB in 1968. He had worked with RKO, Columbia, Paramount, Fox and MGM. So for the only major studio that he was not work was Universal. Of course, most famous successes apart from RKO, were in MGM, where it appears with all the sophistication that was his own. In this movie only thing that matters are the dances with Cyd under the background music of "All of You" by Cole Porter. Although it was a box office hit, of all movies made at MGM I would put this last. The Metrocolor hast lost life. Fred aged noticeable except when dancing. And his final dance scene ends on the floor, yes, ¡on the floor! after a ¡Rock'and Roll song! Pathetic. It's a Hermes Pan choreography. I don`t know how occurred to end like this his last great movie musical. The region 1 DVD have spanish subtitles.
