Silja was born in 1974 in Switzerland, moved to Ireland in her late teens and now divides her time between Dublin, Ireland and Arkansas, USA where her husband is from. As well as the Green Wiccan series of books, Silja writes the highly popular Practical Magic column for the UK woman's magazine "Spirit& Destiny".

She started off her occult journey being interested in tarot cards and doing guided meditations with friends, but quickly became interested in Wicca as a religion and the practise of witchcraft. Through the years, her pracise has changed, going from ecclectic Wicca over traditional Alexandrian Wicca and Celtic Wicca back to a more ecclectic/ hedgewitchery type of witchcraft.
