Product Description

Product Description

This story of Jeb and Nancy is a fictional example of the kind of life many people lived during the peak period of the American Civil War. It was a rough life for those in the South and a constant effort from day to day just to survive. As the Union army moved into the Southern states, foraging soldiers would take just about any source of food they could find. Some of the Civil War events in this book are based on fact.

By Melanie Calvert - Benton - Published on Amazon.com
" Silently Beats The Drum " is book one of W R Benton's the "Drum Series" This book is about a southern civil war soldier name Jeb Patton. He is wounded in the war trying to get home to his sweet heart Nancy. On the trip home he is befriended by two slaves: Moses and Faye. Moses becomes like a father figure to Jeb. Faye at sixteen , falls in love with Jeb, but their color keeps them apart. On arrival home, Jeb discovers Nancy has run off with another man. Upset by the turn of events, Jeb, Moses and Faye head up into the mountains where they encounter a mountain man and indians. This book is full of twists and surprises. You will not want to put it down.
