SILENT WARRIORS - Submarine wrecks of the United Kingdom, Volume 2 continues in the same excellent vein as Volume 1.
This latest book by Ron Young and Pam Armstrong is a veritable encyclopaedia of 58 submarine losses, and their activities off the south coast of England. The vast majority, of course, are WW1 and WW2 losses, but peacetime losses are also included.
The attention to detail is quite staggering, although I, for one, have come to accept this as normal from these two outstanding submarine historians.
Not only are the sinkings of 16 British submarines and 42 German U-boats described in great detail, but in many cases these authors also give some harrowing stories of the fates of their victims.
I cannot praise this book too highly. The authors are to be congratulated for their production of this valuable reference work.
It has whetted my appetite for the forthcoming volumes 3 and 4, which will complete the history of submarine losses around Britain.
The full set of four volumes will undoubtedly become the standard reference work on the subject.
