Following a poll conducted by Classic FM to find the nation’s favourite traditional Christmas music, the station has specially commissioned Silent Nights, a wonderful collection of well-known Christmas music, beautifully arranged for piano and strings by renowned contemporary composer Nigel Hess. Brand new for 2010, this stunning album includes tranquil favourites "Away In A Manger" and "Silent Night", and more celebratory pieces "Hark The Herald Angels Sing" and "O Come All Ye Faithful". Nigel plays the piano himself, in a rare opportunity to hear the composer play, and is accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s string section. Since Christmas can be a frantic time, the album is the perfect antidote to the busy December period.

What a AMAZING selection of carol arrangements - the image on the cover is Gold Hill (or Hovis Hill!) in Shaftesbury, down the road from me in Dorset.

Wow, finally! A Christmas album that I'm looking forward to listening to with my family and friends, gathered around a toasty fire and drinking mulled wine! I've played this album twice today and it creates such a serene setting with beautiful piano and string versions of some of my favourite carols. In some weird and wonderful way, it reminds me of my best Christmases ever - they should all be like this!

This is everything you would expect from the composer of 'Ladies in Lavender' - a really simple idea...arrangements for piano and strings of all the old favourites, but what fantastic arrangements! Head and shoulders above the usual tired compilations with a spiritual quality that's quite beautiful. A Christmas winner.

Scrumptious music
I had never heard of Nigel Hess before, but this piano music is so relaxing and wonderful. I keep playing it and playing it. Although it is all Christmas tunes, I still play it.
