    sub sim 25 Dec 2011

    Fun:
I had a lot of problems getting this game to run, lots of downloading updates and patches etc. I had to phone the company, as it would not launch, they were very helpful. I had to delete and re-install the game launcher. I think it was worth it in the end, the graphics are splendid, although a little indistict for me with my poor vision. The recreation of the submarine is brilliant.
I can't say much about the game play, as I have not had time to play much, but the training level I have tried is great, I easily torpedoed my first target. I am really loooking forward to I onceplaying it with a lot of anticipation.
I once had silent hunter 3, and it was so hard, I gave up on it, SH5 seems much better in many ways, you can, (and must) walk round a well reproduced type v11 Uboat
    I recomend it.

    Brilliantly tense 4 May 2012

    Fun:
After playing the game for a very long time, and only having the one incident with the sub in the town, I can say that even with the bugs its a brilliant game.
Its very tense when you finally track down a convoy, manoeuvre into position and pick your shot. Even more so if a destroyer locks onto you and it becomes a game of cat and mouse while trying to sneak away.
Another issue I have come across is the sub can crash into the seabed if you are fast travelling while watching the map. Its a bug with the simple sub controls, if you manually set your depth to around 20 metres you never crash.
Its also annoying when an enemy destroyer seemingly appears out of thin air and kills you while you are looking at the map.
These are problems I can play around fortunately, but they really shouldnt be there at all.
Its these little things that stop this game from being great, however its worth 4 stars in my opinion, I've already had way more than £4 worth of fun out of it.

    ORIGINAL REVIEW :
During mission 1, I was travelling to the sub base after sinking the ships. Was watching progress from the map screen and with time compression on. For some odd reason I ended up stuck in the middle of a town !? The sub was rolling around in between the buildings!
If thats a sign of things to come then perhaps I might not bother to play it at all. I can well imagine how annoyed I would be if a bug like this happened whilst playing later missions !
Other than that theres little else wrong with this game for the price. Sure its old and dated looking by standards today. I would have liked an external camera option however, one that remains with the sub and not a drop cam that watches the sub sail away on its course.

Sunk, All Lost... 18 Nov 2011
    Fun:
This product reminds me of the days when games were loaded using cassette tapes although this was slower, taking 50 minutes to load from CD. Then it required an update that took 3 attempts to download and install successfully.
After that, you need to complete a system reboot and a further check for available downloads, only then can you start the game, which takes 2 minutes to load.
It opens with some irrelevant nonsense about a mission that is years ahead of the beginners level. At no time did I feel that I was in control or even able to gain control of it.
I hope someone with a little more patience than I purchases this game, as I gave up after 2 hours and 10 minutes, without taking control of the game at all. In my honest opinion, this game is not worth a penny of your money and should be avoided at all costs.
A rather expensive DVD cover, the rest went into a recycling bin.
