Sonata Arctica, upon the release of their first album, "Ecliptica", was voted in many European countries "Best Hope Heavy Metal Band".

Well, with this second album, everyone must agree that they have become really prominent actors in the Speed Melodic Metal world ! Forget Stratovarius, forget Rhapsody, forget Hammerfall, this is much better. It has a somewhat less "artificial" feeling than those bands. You can really feel that Tony means it when he writes and sings his lyrics. As for the musicians, wow, they're at the same time fast, melodious, and highly technical. If someone has ever heard such a wonderful keyboard play, I'd like to know !

If you're into Stratovarius, Angra, Nightwish or Freedom Call, this is just what you need. Don't hesitate a microsecond.

cries of silence 19 Jan 2003

Another great band from the home of NIGHTWISH, CHILDREN OF BODOM and SENTENCED. Tony's vocal talents are truely unique. So Unique that the music sounds like Power Metal on one song and Thrash or even Gothic on another. My favourite is still "Wolf and Raven". A more touching note with "Last Drop Falls". what else can I say check it out yourselves!

A classic 15 Feb 2004
By Big Red VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
This is SA's best release to date, and for me is up there with the likes of Dream Theater's Images and Words and Shadow Gallery's Tyranny, it is pure brilliance. Although SA's sound is kind of speed/symphonic progressive metal, Silence is varied enough to sound fresh every time and there isn't a dud track to be found (though the hidden use of the F word at the end is a bit crass). No other band can use the double-bass pedal so much without sounding boring, and Tony Kakko is a great vocalist. If you're into the whole 'neo-prog' scene, do not ignore this band!
