Definitely not your usual read. This book takes you where you have never been before. I loved the unusual topic and unexpected thrill of denouncing one's religion in the face of adversity. I strongly recommend this unusual story.

When purchasing this book, I thought that it was a true story about Christian martyrs. It is NOT. However it is a very entertaining and informative book, because it give the historical background and events that took place during the Christian persecutions in Japan. The book is well-written and very descriptive. If you are looking for reading that gives one an appreciation of what persecuted Christians and missionaries often go through, you may enjoy this book. If you are looking for "Lives of the Saints", look elsewhere.
