This is definitely an amazing book for anyone really interested in signage. As a graphic designer, for years I worked on many projects that involved extensive usage of signage but never could find a decent study that, let's say had a scientific /psychological approach to it.

If you are looking for a book that will really help you understand and produce excellent signage projects, I warmly suggest you buy this one first instead of spending extensive amounts of money on books that show you 1000 signs worth nothing...

not good enough 3 Feb 2009
Format:Hardcover
This book offers a lot of advice and guidance. I haven't read all of it yet, but what I have read of it has surprised me by being very opinionated, in a way that is not helpful to inexperienced sign designers. Much of it (of what I've read so far) is personal opinion and does not match what else I know of published authoritative good-practice guidelines and the work of respected authors and practitioners in the field. I thought the book would be better than this, there are books that are IMHO better than this if what you need is a how-to guide to planning and designing signage (Mollerup - Wayshowing, Arthur and Passini - Wayshowing, NHS Estates - Wayfinding Guidance for healthcare facilities (good even outside of its stated remit).

Finnally! The complete signage manual! 14 Aug 2007
By P. P. Mijksenaar - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This is a preliminary review, based on a first reading only. But I got so excited that I couldn't wait to tell everybody in the field of wayfinding that this book is a 'must have' one! The book of Edo -lavishly and beautifully illustrated by Edo's wife Huda (a specialist in Arabic typography)- gives a complete overview of the discipline of signage, not only essential for designer but especially for clients and the facility managers among them. It shows the importance of good preparation and not to run to a sign designer and ask for more or/and larger and colorful signs. The book is too thick to read at once, but one must keep it close to all ones other reference 'bibles'.
