Product Description

Product Description

TheThis high-quality Sigma UV Filter blocks the invisible UV component of light from the sky, which can cause blur and often a blue cast. UV Filters are ideal for photography in high altitudes, by the sea and in regions with very clean air. The pictures gain brilliance and disturbing blue casts are avoided. As the glass is colourless, colour rendition is not altered, aside from the elimination of the unwanted blue cast, and no increase in exposure is required. The colourless glass also makes a UV Filter very suitable as protection for the front element of your lens against dust, flying sand, sea water spray etc and can be kept on the lens at all times. It is recommended for colour and black & white film, as well as digital photography. Sigma has treated this filter with a multi-layer coating process, which, in addition to its UV-blocking qualities, makes these filters especially scratch-resistant. This also dramatically reduces the chance of flare in images. Sigma DG filters benefit from super multi-layer lens coatings, developed to counteract the highly reflective characteristics of digital image sensors, reducing both flare and ghosting

Black rimmed glass eliminates unnecessary internal reflections

UV filters absorb ultraviolet light which can often make outdoor photographs appear hazy. By cutting through this haze, images look sharper and in the case of colour photography, the UV filter can correct the blues and violets

UV filters can also be used as a protective filter, remaining on the lens at all times to prevent damage to the front element

Sigma DG filters deliver high performance on both digital and film SLR cameras.

    5.0 out of 5 stars You won't notice it... 16 Sep 2010

If you've got a lens with an 86mm filter thread, you're almost certainly going to want to protect the front element and that's pretty much what this filter is intended for. It's fairly pricey, but nowhere near the cost of a replacement lens.

It's well constructed. The glass doesn't rattle or rotate in the frame. The matte black finish of the metal helps minimise reflections. It's even supplied with a faux-leather, felt-lined wallet for storing it when it's not on the camera, which seems a bit of a waste as most people will likely never take it off once fitted.

I've not been able to find any discernile difference in image quality with/without the filter so it really does everything I could want it to and for a lot less than the competition. for that it gets full marks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Big Filter 13 Jan 2010

What can one say? It does its job of protecting the lens. Because it's big and therefore presumably exponentially more difficult to make than a smaller one, it's very expensive, but at least it's a little less expensive than its competitors.

Bought this for my Sigma 150-500mm lens and I am pleased with it as it screws to the lens very easily and it is easily removed if a different filter is going to be used. A good price and it was despatched promptly.
    Would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sigma UV filter 20 Mar 2012

Excellent service from Amazon. The Sigma lense is as good as any of the other makes but at an affordable cost. It pays to fork out for a UV filter to protect an expensive lense.
