Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The Sigma DG filters benefit from super multi-layer lens coatings, developed to counteract the highly reflective characteristics of digital image sensors, reducing both flare and ghosting

Black rimmed glass eliminates unnecessary internal reflections

UV filters absorb ultraviolet light which can often make outdoor photographs appear hazy. By cutting through this haze, images look sharper and in the case of colour photography, the UV filter can correct the blues and violets

UV filters can also be used as a protective filter, remaining on the lens at all times to prevent damage to the front element

Sigma DG filters deliver high performance on both digital and film SLR cameras.

Product Description

The 86mm DG multi-coated UV Filter is designed to protect your SLR digital camera lens when taking pictures in bright light.

Big Filter 13 Jan 2010
What can one say? It does its job of protecting the lens. Because it's big and therefore presumably exponentially more difficult to make than a smaller one, it's very expensive, but at least it's a little less expensive than its competitors.

If you've got a lens with an 86mm filter thread, you're almost certainly going to want to protect the front element and that's pretty much what this filter is intended for. It's fairly pricey, but nowhere near the cost of a replacement lens.

It's well constructed. The glass doesn't rattle or rotate in the frame. The matte black finish of the metal helps minimise reflections. It's even supplied with a faux-leather, felt-lined wallet for storing it when it's not on the camera, which seems a bit of a waste as most people will likely never take it off once fitted.

I've not been able to find any discernile difference in image quality with/without the filter so it really does everything I could want it to and for a lot less than the competition. for that it gets full marks.

Sigma UV filter 20 Mar 2012
Excellent service from Amazon. The Sigma lense is as good as any of the other makes but at an affordable cost. It pays to fork out for a UV filter to protect an expensive lense.
