Having been a keen photographer in my younger days,I decided to join the ranks of the SLR enthusiasts once again.
Being on a budget now that I am retired,the Sigma 70-300mm really fitted the bill price wise and after using it now for some weeks,I find it really excellent value for money,easy to use and light for it's size,excellent picture quality,perfect for those like me.

I purchased this lens in January 2009.In October the auto focus mechanism stopped working properly. (It made a very unhealthy sound).I returned it under warranty and to be fair,it was quickly fixed (Scale ring replaced). I continued to use it (not heavy usage though) until June 2011 when the AF failed again.
I would have rated this more highly as when it works,it works well.However this seems to be a regular failure I've read other reviews that record this as a problem...it is not acceptable.I've now opted for a new Tamron lens as the repair costs of the Sigma means it makes more sense to buy new.....(but not Sigma)

I purchased this lense as the Sony make were too expensive. After I purchased it and before it arrived I was a bit dubious and thought that this would not give me the same quality photographs as the Sony lense. It arrived and off I went to try it out - to my great suprise and relief it is exceptional and the quality of the photographs are great - you cant stop me using it now. 'Well done Sigma'

ZOOM ZOOM
On full zoom you really need a tripod, although my A 850 compensates the shake so I am OK. Very good lens, good focusing.
