I spent ages looking through reviews, reading forums etc before purchasing this lens in a Nikon mount. My requirements were for a lens for macro images that would also be suitable for general walkabout use. I use a Nikon D50 and on this camera it has an equivalent focal length of 75mm. Its a bit 'short' for insects and things that are going to move quickly. But for my purposes it suits fine - still life, photos of items in collections and flowers. Be prepared for noisy autofocusing, for macro use I have been using manual focus, and this works very well. In fact it has a tendency to 'hunt' whilst focusing on close-ups, and here the focus limiter is useful - on my Nikon mount lens the limiter can be set for 'Normal' ie for photos in a more normal range up to infinity focus, or close ups where it limits itself to 1/4-1/1 (lifesize). This is a SIGMA EX lens, and has the same finish as other lenses in this product range, although I don't think its build quality is the same as my SIGMA 10-20 mm wideangle zoom. Overall its a very good lens, it is sharp from lifesize through to infinity and this is what I wanted. I would have liked the Nikon 60mm lens, but as this cost about £100 more I could not justify it - buy the Sigma if you are in the same situation, you won't be dissapointed. There is no case with the lens so you need to source one of these as well.
