5.0 out of 5 stars Sigma macro magic. 20 Aug 2009
I bought my Sigma macro lens for my D90 to replace a Sigma 105 macro lens that had been stolen from my van a few years ago. I needed a decent macro lens for step-by-step photos for magazine articles that I was doing. From the outset I fell in love with this cracker of a lens. The images are bright and pin-sharp while the cost was very affordable. Simply put, this is a terrific lens for close-up work or portraits. I have no regrets whatsoever and would heartly recommend this lens to all. It also was voted editors choice in a photography magazine (sorry I can't recall which magazine as I have so many in my library. Happy snapping!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Macro Review 10 Jan 2011

I spent ages looking through reviews, reading forums etc before purchasing this lens in a Nikon mount. My requirements were for a lens for macro images that would also be suitable for general walkabout use. I use a Nikon D50 and on this camera it has an equivalent focal length of 75mm. Its a bit 'short' for insects and things that are going to move quickly. But for my purposes it suits fine - still life, photos of items in collections and flowers. Be prepared for noisy autofocusing, for macro use I have been using manual focus, and this works very well. In fact it has a tendency to 'hunt' whilst focusing on close-ups, and here the focus limiter is useful - on my Nikon mount lens the limiter can be set for 'Normal' ie for photos in a more normal range up to infinity focus, or close ups where it limits itself to 1/4-1/1 (lifesize). This is a SIGMA EX lens, and has the same finish as other lenses in this product range, although I don't think its build quality is the same as my SIGMA 10-20 mm wideangle zoom. Overall its a very good lens, it is sharp from lifesize through to infinity and this is what I wanted. I would have liked the Nikon 60mm lens, but as this cost about £100 more I could not justify it - buy the Sigma if you are in the same situation, you won't be dissapointed. There is no case with the lens so you need to source one of these as well.

I have been using this lens for over a year for my food photography. It is brilliant! Couldn't have asked for anything better. Excellent sharpness and overall results. 9 times out of 10 the wb is spot on. Never need to do much editing. If you would like to see many many examples of this lens check out my food blog here cookingwithdia dot com .
