Reading some earlier reviews, I guess many people will go through this work far too fast and then blame the book because they can't make it 'happen' for themselves.
Also the system may seem a little counter-intuitive at first but you must take the Authors advice and learn the sounds from one section before going on to the next.

The book shows you how to memorise the sound of each of the combinations of notes that commonly occur within ONE BEAT. If you think in terms of beats you can sight read successfully because the beat remains constant and the rhythmic sound of each beat combination, having previously been memorised, can be played automatically...

Learning to be a musician was never easy and involves a lot of dedication. I found that learning this way very quickly improved my reading ability and also my time-keeping as I can now play with less effort.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve their sight reading and is prepared to include these exercises as part of a regular practice routine. Make your own mind up but I'm sure you will agree with me.

I was hopeful when I purchased this book but I found it hard going. I didn't think I was that slow- I do have a degree.

The authors premise is that you count beats not notes but in order to do this you need to know how the pattern of notes sounds anyway!

Thought there was complicated talk and not enough practical examples.

great book by a very clever author. Gets you to really understand rhythm and beat and the dictum "dont say 'and'" is great
Work through this and you will be instinctivley giving each note its correct lenght in no time. remember practice for 10 mins no more less each day and you will get it and be amazing in two months
