This is perhaps one of the most realistic driving simulators I have ever played. Its based around the monstrous (and very hard to drive)Dodge Viper, which may seem odd basing a whole game round one single model of car. But MGI and Sierra have used a very intresting car indeed.
The games realism is without peer, forgot TOCA, Gran Turismo or even Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix series, this game makes them all look arcady. All the techniques of professional racing drivers can be implemeted in this simulation. It gives you the choice of a manual gearbox with clutch!
But what impressed me most about this game was the AI. In many driving games, the opposition appear to have some unfair advantages over the player. Not Viper Racing. The AI uses only what you use, power, brakes and steering and you often see the computer misjudging a corner and having to correct oversteer with some opposite lock, which can end up with some pretty hilarious pile-ups. Not to suggest that the AI drivers are not very good. It took me months to complete this game on the hardest skill level with all driving aids off!
But if your not a die-hard racing fan and are merely up for some light driving entertainment then there are options to make life easier. There are three skill levels and many driving aids including traction control, Yaw control, ABS braking and auto gearbox.
But to gain the best experiance from this game you will need a steering wheel as the key board just feels wrong.
If your a fan of the Dodge Viper and up for some ultra-realistic driving then buy this game, but if your more casual and after more variety in your cars, then you probably best look elsewhere.
