4.0 out of 5 stars Great coffee, bit over the top on design, 14 Jan 2007
Although the owner of the previous model of this machine (which I found very satisfactory) when it came to a replacement, I specifically DIDN'T buy the new model featured here on the basis on the review I read on Amazon - and spent ages looking around for an alternative. Eventually (partly in desperation since I broke the thermos) I did purchase this machine from a department store (and had the big hassle of carrying it home - it's very heavy).

It was with some trepidation that I made my first couple of cups, but much to my great relief, the coffee is excellent, and unlike your previous reviewer, I have found that it keeps hot and fresh-tasting for plenty long enough of a leisurely read of the weekend papers.

I do feel that Siemens have gone somewhat over the top in terms of design 'gimmicks' - I really don't need the jug to automatically swing out for me to dispense once the coffee is brewed - but the quality of the coffee is excellent and can be adjusted to taste - and I am somewhat exacting in my demands for the brew - good and strong, with excellent high roast coffee, but mustn't be harsh, bitter or stewed.

It's true that it is possible to buy a much cheaper model with a glass jug and a hotplate, but this generally results in a burnt or stewed result if left around too long....and I like the flexibility inherent in a thermal flask - I can take the pot with me.

I would recommend this model (and I actually think it's superior to the previous one) - just take the extra gimmicks as a joke - but do beware that it has a very large footprint and will take up a lot of space on your kitchen counter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality coffee from an expensive product, 8 May 2008

There is no escaping the fact that this filter coffee machine is on the expensive side. You could purchase 3 adequate machines for the price you pay for this one.
However, I am a self confessed coffee addict and have purchased several filter machines down the years. Always hoping the new one would be better than the last etc. I decided to push the boat out and get the best money could buy. So I opted to get this Siemens model.
I wasn't disappointed. With this machine I can actually taste the different blends of coffee that I make. Something I could never do with my previous conventional machines. The criticism leveled by a previous reviewer that the coffee doesn't stay hot for long enough is a bit hit and miss. If you brew half the thermal jug's capacity the liquid will stay hot for perhaps an hour without losing its flavour. This is long enough for most people who want a decent brew before going to work. And likewise, if you use the jug's full capacity the liquid will stay hot for longer.
The entire unit is easy to keep clean, and the limescale filter and descaling program are nice touches.
I would recommend this machine for the coffee connoisseurs out there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Present, 22 Sep 2007
I was given the coffee machine by a kitchen company following the installation of a new kitchen and all of my new appliances are Siemens. I would agree that it is a little over the top in design but several friends have made positive comments about it. Hoping to get the toaster now. Coffee does taste good, I too like mine strong and having the option to make three different strengths is good. Only 1 snag - warming the coffee pot first is a good idea and I find using freshly boiled water from the kettle is best - water is then thrown away which I find a little wasteful! Agree about the jug springing out when the coffee is ready and you have to be careful that it is sitting on the platform properly otherwise it nearly falls off!!
