Simon Kernick "Siege" is a quality thriller to enjoy reading. Kernick is definitely one of the best thriller writers in the UK. He can be compared to other modern day thriller writers such as Harlen Corben and Lee Child. I have read most of the author novels. Siege continues to impress.
The author has added a new dimension in the narrative approach. The plot centres on a multitude of characters. The title of "Seige" fits well in the context of the plot. It is about a group of terrorists demanding a ransom of an unknown group. The motive is quite clear, as it is connected to Western occupation of Middle East countries. As a result, the city of London comes to a standstill to oppose the intervention at whatever costs. The novel explores different angles effectively, as we read different accounts of how these activities affecting certain individuals. It is a terrifying situation, with a fast paced plot and hardly a moment of calmness. The momentum swiftly builds up from the start to an explosive and nail biting conclusion. It is like racing in a circuit to the finished line. There have been reports of attacks in various locations throughout the capital. A full picture emerges of the situation, as the police and media are involved.
Kernick has mastered the art of writing a thriller to impress. Each novel gets better, as he is never short of ideas. I would certainly place "Seige" as a possible contender for a TV screenplay. It is novel filled with so much suspense to keep you glued to the novel by finishing in one gulf.
