Being a big fan of the tough, muscular Aldo Ray, i was overjoyed to hear this little-seen 1959 classic was to be released by Optimum. The much underrated Ray is on top form here as a prison escapee whom, with three accomplices, becomes trapped on Pinchgut Island. In order to secure his demands, Ray threatens to blow up Sydney harbor, if those demands are not met, thus leading to an action-packed finale with the authorities. Based on a true story, this film really packs a wallop, and fans of classic films should derive much enjoyment. With a good cast, which includes, Heather Sears, Victor Maddern, Neil McCallum and Barbara Mullen, the Siege was a worthy film for Ealing to end film production with.
