This game has won the Game of the Year Award, and with good reason. It is an engaging, new concept for a game that takes time and skill to play well. Games like this are a far cry from the standard "Battleship" or "Trouble" that I grew up with and, instead are, to a lesser degree, more like "Risk" and "Go", but without the guise of battles or wars.
Die Siedler von Catan is the GERMAN version of the Settlers of Catan game. Make sure you are aware that this game is in GERMAN before you order it. That being said, this game is about settling into a town and, for all intents and purposes, making it your new home. It is up to you to construct streets and buildings, using the resources that you can obtain through earning, purchasing or bartering. Real life tragedies happen in everyday life, and this game is no exception. Your buildings may burn down in an arson, your streets may not get built on time due to a delay in obtaining the necessary resources, and your money may get stolen. These are events that add the required "conflict" needed to make the game fun and interesting. This game takes time to play (don't compare this to a game of "Sorry" that may only take you 20 minutes to finish. Expect to play this game for at lease 45 minutes.) but it is well worth the time and energy it takes to play. Highly recommended to any game enthusiast!
