First of all,in response to the review below:
Sys requirements call for a G5/Intel @ 1.8Ghz,so crappy performance on a G4 should not surprise anybody; the game is also a considerable CPU hog on windows.

The game itself is Civilization at its best:
All the basic concepts are still there,some annoying things like excessive corruption are gone and some new aspects,like religion have been added....and it comes in 3D :)

The gory technical stuff:
Expect audio problems(Some/most effects not audible) and on some systems unusually high CPU loads.
A beta patch has been released that takes care of some of those problems,expect a full patch very soon.

I had to rate the game with 3 stars due to the technical dicfficulties.

After reading several bad reviews for Civ IV i thought i should write my own. So okay, i run the game on my old iMac G5 and i have no problems, sure it's a little slow at times but when you have an old machine you have to expect that. If you have an Intel powered mac you're in a much better position to play this game, but if not like me, tinker with the settings and you should get it to work fine. My machine is by no means blazing fast. The game itself is excellent. Yes, it is a bit easier than Civ III, but played on a harder level it will balance out. There is a bit more to the game than Civ III, a bigger learning curve, but when you come to grips with that you'll appreciate the extra bit of depth to the game. It is an excellent game. Patches have been released, and so too have expansion packs. There's no reason not to buy this game.

Now, I have played Civilization since the early times, since there was no numbers and it was just called "Civilization".
The game is great, as usual and combine the best of Civilization and of Alpha Centaury. Everything is there.

But the whole fun becomes a terrible thing in Aspyr version for Mac.

On the box:

They ask for OS X 10.3.9 or later - I have 10.4.7
They ask for PPC G5 or Intel - I have a G5
They ask for 512 MB Ram (1 GB recommanded) - I have 1 GB
3.5 GB free disk space - Yop! Got it.
64 MB video ram - Well... got 128 MB

So everything should work fine.

Well... It doesn't!

Sound is not working (it does work to some extend if you pout the game in mono).

Graphic is going "hack- hack- hacking a bit", reminds me of the time, I was trying to play Doom on a 386 - 25 MHz: You push a button. Nothing happens, then it moves... (It's alive!) push a button again, wait a bit, and it hack- hack- hacks on a bit...

The game /is/ already patched so I just don't even dare to think of how it was before!

Now, I want to say: _nothing_ absolutely _nothing else_ than the game was running on my Mac (except of the OS of course!). There was no reason whatsoever why it didn't work.

When you think about the price and of the game. When you think than the computer is way above the system requirements they ask for... I feel cheated.

So for you, people, who believe tha game isn't working because you have a G4, don't think it'll work better on a G5!

Now I would say it is about time Aspyr does something about that real quick.
