1.0 out of 5 stars Sickle (a.k.a. The Slaughterhouse Massacre), 15 Dec 2005
This review is from: Sickle [DVD] (DVD)
Two jock-jerks and their annoying girlfriends explore an abandoned abattoir rumoured to be haunted by the ghost of Marty Sickle, who was lynched for a murder years earlier. A mock séance soon brings dire consequences when the maniac is resurrected and begins killing them. With literally hundreds of slasher films already cemented in history by 2005, one might assume that to make even a passable teen horror film, all you’d need to do is replicate the most effective scenes with minor innovations and presto – you’d have your crowd-pleaser. Yet Sickle is a film so tremendously awful that it feels the need to drag out every single scene to the maximum lengths of human tolerance in order to reach a distributable running time, and with only four characters in peril things get very boring very fast. Ancillaries are introduced only to disappear from the film long before any of the horror begins, proving that neither the budget nor imagination of the writer/director could accommodate them. Offensive pandering to the supposed adolescent male demographic is perpetually evident with needless girl-on-girl action and intermittent stoner ‘comedy’. How a film with no redeeming features whatsoever was picked up by anyone is a mystery.

This film is with out a doubt the worst film i have ever seen.its dull all the way through, the effects are terrible and the acting is awful.the only good thing that came from watching this film is that it made me appreciate good movies a lot more. on the front of the casing it quotes "more terrifying than the texas chainsaw massacre"..now, i don't know who wrote that but i would love to hear their reasoning for that comment!...even if you are easly scared you will laugh at this appalling attempt at a horror movie.DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY...like this director obviously did!!

As a fan of low budget horrors I thought I'd try out Sickle to see if it is as bad as it seems. As a modern horror, you do think they would have come up with a bit more of a story and even borrow good ideas from other films. Unfortunately they don't. The basic story is Marty Sickle was killed in a slaughter house in a revenge attack on a murder he was supposed to have committed years before. Now years later it has become a sort of Urban legend and a group of friends decide to check it out, soon wishing they hadn't! I agree it does feel to drawn out even at 77 minutes!

As with most low budget horrors the acting is pretty bad, the effects although gory are very low budget, the girls are cute and there is needless nudity for the sake of it. The actual slaughter house could have been a real creepy location but only seems to have 3 rooms to it? Sadly with a bigger budget this could have been quite good, a missed opportunity. Overall only hardcore horror fans should check this out, but would recommend Urban legend 3, The Pool instead. However there is worse out there! 4/10
