Book Description

26 May 2011
For fans of Stephen King, Blake Crouch, and Michael Crichton comes a new, heart-pounding thriller by Brett Battles... Daniel Ash wakes after midnight to the cry of his daughter. Just a bad dream, he thinks. She's had them before. Yet he can't help but worry when she cries out again as he pads down the hallway. Stepping through her doorway, he expects to find her sitting up in bed, frightened by a nightmare. But the nightmare is his. It's real. And it's just beginning... Something is burning Ash's daughter alive. Something horrible that is spreading beyond the walls of their home, and taking no prisoners. Thirty seconds later, Ash will discover his daughter isn't the only one in his family infected, and as his world spins, coming apart at the seams, a team of armed men in biohazard suits bursts into his house. But these aren't the good guys. They haven't come to save Ash's family. They've come to separate them, to finish what they started. The problem is Ash refuses to disappear. He wants only one thing: to find those responsible. Because humanity is on the brink of execution. And man is pulling the trigger. WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT SICK: "Brett Battles is a master of the thriller genre. SICK not only grabs you by the throat, but by the heart and gut as well, and by the time you finish you feel as if you've just taken a runaway train through dangerous territory. Buy this book now. You won't regret it."-Robert Browne, author of THE PARADISE PROPHECY. "Like a fever, SICK makes you sweat and keeps you up all night, wondering what the hell is happening. It'll make your heart race like someone shot you with an EpiPen. You think Battles was badass before? He just cranked it up to 500 joules. CLEAR!"-popculturenerd.com "SICK is Brett Battles at his best (which is saying a great deal), a thriller that also chills, with a secret at its core that's almost too scary to be contained within the covers of a book. As always, Battles juggles plot lines with the best of them, and his characters jump off the page. SICK deserves to be a best-seller."-Tim Hallinan, author of the Edgar nominated THE QUEEN OF PATPONG PRAISE FOR BRETT BATTLES' JONATHAN QUINN SERIES: "Brett Battles has established himself as one of today's best thriller writers, right up there with Lee Child, Barry Eisler, and Thomas Perry."-Deadly Pleasures magazine "The best word I can use to describe his writing is addictive."-James Rollins, author of the Sigma Force series "Quinn is one part James Bond, one part Jason Bourne."-Nashville Book Worm "I'm on the edge of my seat, awaiting future installments of Quinn's Adventures."-Jeffery Deaver, author of the Lincoln Rhyme's series "Battles has a true gift for writing thrillers..."-Crimespree magazine "The action is heart-pounding, gripping, and always engaging."-Tucson Citizen "Battles is a master storyteller."-Sheldon Siegel, author of PERFECT ALIBI

I received a free copy of this book for my review. This is one of those books that grabs you by the hand and pulls you along for the ride. It was and is a scary insight into what some conspiracy theorists say is already a reality. The main character Ash awakens to find his wife dead and his children dieing. Biohazard turns up and thats when things begin to get really bad. This book would make a great movie. It is full of intrigue and scenarios that are not so far from the reality we live in today. The next time we have a swine flu outbreak or HN1 virus alert, I shall be watching closely (a conspiracy theorist in the making). I really enjoyed how fast paced and interesting the book was and highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good start to what could be a really good series 20 Nov 2011
By B. Bello VINE VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found I was really looking forward to the next chapter as I was reading this book. The story has been done before and even a bit better, it just that the author found new ways of covering the same ground that held my attention right through the book. I'm not sure how many books will be in the series, I am hoping it will be a trilogy as any more might not hold up, but in any case I am looking forward to the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars A new Superstar in Superbug Drama 22 April 2011
By Fara
Format:Kindle Edition
The bad guys are at it again, but who are they? When Captain Daniel Ash wakes up hearing his little girl sick in the night, all hell is unleashed on him and his family. What's worse is that when he calls for help, he and all of his neighbors are whisked away for "help" with the intent to watch them die.

Only his strain of super immune blood can save him and with a little help, he charges off to save humanity but first he has to figure out who are the bad guys. The tension mounts and with only the creativity that Brett Battles can bring to a story you are enthralled from page one until the end.

A fabulous group of characters get together to battle the forces that would like to bring us to our knees. Go Daniel Ash and Go Brett Battles. Once again this very talented author has brought us a book that I could not put down from start to finish. I loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Battles at his very best .......unmissable..... 16 Aug 2011
By Lindy
Format:Kindle Edition
This book I recieved free for my review,
wow what an excellent intense story from the master of suspence, I was hooked from page one right to the very last page.
A family, a deadly virus, people are dying but who is to blame, Captain Ash looses his wife to the virus and his daughter is seriously sick, his son is not affected by the virus and nor is the captain, they are all taken to a facility and later Ash is told that his son and daughter are dead,he himself is still healthy, but he is locked in a sort of cell and told nothing more....
This is just the start of the story, there are plenty of twists and turns in this book with no letup of the suspence.
Dont miss this book it is brilliantly written and exciting right to the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 3 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Brilliant, have read all six books in the series in two weeks was absolutely hooked. The story line is very good, one of the best in this genre. Brett's writing is very good, the words and the story flow well without flowery descriptives, Brett say's enough and then let's the readers imagination do the rest, which is what a good author should do. Highly recommend the Project Eden series, I can't wait for the next one as I can't get captain Ash and co out of my head wondering what is going to happen next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sick - In every sense of the word 24 Mar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love a good horror. Whether Brett Battles was going for a horror or an urban thriller here, either way, he has nailed it. In fact, I would say he merged the two perfectly.

Blistering from the outset, we are thrust into a nightmarish world of disease and death. Loved ones aren't safe, anyone is a potential victim and even the innocent are in danger before we can catch up with the plot. We follow our protagonist as he becomes embroiled in a conspiracy thriller that has a little of everything. In fact, by the halfway mark, its a surprise our hero hasn't given up. But he doesn't, using his personal demons to propel him to revenge and justice, which drives the plot perfectly. We also see the situation from interspersed characters as the severity of the situation becomes more and more out of control.

The beauty of Sick is this: Realistic scenarios are the most terrifying. What if you woke up and your world had been changed by megalomaniac government individuals with annihilation on their mind? It doesn't seem that unrealistic when you think about it. Reading the papers, it seems almost inevitable that it could happen. Which is where Sick is strongest. Playing on fears that anyone who reads the newspapers will identify with, Sick makes for an excellent, heart-pounding thriller.

I found it difficult to put this down. I have read Brett Battles for several years, since his very first Quinn thriller and after this experience, I will continue to read. I can't wait for the sequels. An excellent dystopian page turner.
