Ideal field guide 30 April 2009
Format:Paperback
This book is an ideal size to carry in the field, yet the pictures are a good size and the written description clear and interesting. Recommended for Canada.

I'm from europe and do birdwatching in europe. I got this for my trip to Florida, and had a lot of use for it, as I stayed in an area with a lot of swamps and forests, and lots of wading birds. The book made it fast and easy to identify american birds, it points out characteristic details in flight and behavior, not only color and pattern, that might not always be visible. Sound descriptions are good and accurate. It is everything you'd expect from a modern bird book.

In addition, it is a thing of beauty, the illustrations are not only very informative, but also very beautiful. The text is also very interesting, even when not out in the field.

Get it, wether you live in eastern Northern America, or is just visiting!

We bought this book because we had a touring holiday planned in NY, ON QC NB ME MA states. It was really useful, we managed to positively identify over 30 species; all that was missing was a sound facillity for the bird call (the descriptions did not seem to match the actual song). It was faily lightweight and not too big to carry around as it contained details of hundreds of birds. Pictures were clear, perhaps a little small, but with so many birds this had to be the case. Cover was also water resistant. We are really glad we bought it.
