If someone wanted a large sampling of Sibelius's occasional music and tone poems, this two-fer from Berglund and the Bournemouth Sym. would be a good choice, especially at the super-bargain price listed on Amazon Marketplace. A fondness for Sibleius's lessert works has existed in the UK dating back to Beecham, who could turn slight works into something special through the force of his own musical personality. Berglund can't, I'm afraid. These are middle-of-the-road eadings, and where the music rises to real quality (En Saga, Pohjola's Daughter), he falls decidedly short of the best. He lacks passion and his Bournemouth musicians are only medium-good.
For myself, all of this msuic is take it or leave it with a few exceptions, so I can't work up a huge amount of enthusiasm except for the price.
