An excellent book 3 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is not a self-help book promising miracle cures.

It explores the reasons for shyess, the mind and the body. Explains how shyness develops thru life and how it can be overcome and how you can successfully live with shyness. Many strategies are suggested for different life stages - none are quick fixes.

Your understanding of shyness can only increase with this book.

A first class read for parents of shy children and how to prevent problems before they start.

I would have no hesitation in recommending this book - but not for those who want rapid solutions

Carducci`s book on shyness opened up a new world for me, years of painful first encounters and the turmoil of being afraid. The inability I had to make the simplest amount of small talk kept me from making new friends and being more successful in my career. Those days are over, I now understand that there is a whole new world out there for me to discover and enjoy.I am no longer afraid. I will only hope others who are shy will find this book so, that their worlds may be alive like mine is now!

I warmly recommend this book to anyone who is suffering from shyness in any form. I immediately recognised myself in the first chapter where Mr. Carducci identifies the problem, but was so encouraged by his approach. He makes a distinction between changing yourself (I have tried to do that so many times, unsuccessfully) and changing your choices. This was a revelation to me. His approach is to show a shy person how to make better decisions and choices in everyday life. This is possible through strategies that can lead to realistic alternatives.

The bottom line, of course, is "does the book work?" I can honestly say it does, for me. It's not a magic cure. It involves work. I am still a person who tends towards shyness. However, I have learned strategies to help me overcome it. At times I forget them and go into reverse, and re-enter my own little frozen, stammering, blushing world. But then I go back to the book and re-read the underlined bits and remind myself of what I have to do to live a "successfully shy" life.
