What an absolute joy that this DVD has been released - Larry Grayson at his best! What a shame that there is only one surviving episode of 'Shut that Door'. All the shows on this DVD show how great Larry was and very much missed. Catch up with Apricot Lil, Vinegar Vera and of course Everard. A joy to see Larry and Noele together. A treat for all fans of the King of Camp.

I couldn't believe it when I saw this release was on it's way, and for it to be so complete and thorough is testament to the ethos behind Network DVD the company responsible for releasing this 9 hour marathon.
I actually first remember Larry from the 'Generation Game', so all the material on here is new to me, but it's so easy to see why the public loved him and why he was picked for the aformentioned programme.
I defy anyone not to smile at Larry's material, some of which is laugh out loud,some is more subtle, but no less amusing, and some of it is near the knuckle in a nudge nudge kind of way!
For the age of the material, the majority of the picture quality is more than acceptable, with only the Royal Variety Performance footage dipping slightly, and on this segment the audio is somewhat out of sync, but I sent an email to Network who said it had been improved compared to what it was, and that it was either a case of putting it on as it is, or leaving it off completely which is a fair enough explanation for me when you're talking about rare archive material.
So the bottom line is, this is a fantastic compilation of Larry's ITV output, and is recommended wholeheartedly to anyone with an interest in either Larry or comedy in general.

This DVD set is a wonderful archive of Larry Grayson's work, representing his period from early fame to late 1970s star.
As somebody who wasn't here to see these shows, it is a timely reminder just how consummate a comedian he was. Watching the Generation Game - which didn't really showcase his stand-up talents - it's easy to forget (or not even have known) just how professional an act he was.
The Larry Grayson Show series contained on Disc 2 is a bit of a revelation for he is very polished, which was not something he often came across on the Generation Game. In fact The Larry Grayson show is a very slick affair with lots of dry ice, an illuminated staircase for Larry to descend from, a grand piano and so on. That all episodes from this series survive and are contained on here is a very thankful thing.
The rest of the DVD contains many other gems and I will get round to watching these in due course. At three-discs this is an excellent tribute and something any fan of British comedy and home-grown talent should buy.
