Book Description

1 Jun 2014
At thirty years old Bryan Bishop's life was right on track: as the sidekick on The Adam Carolla Show, his career was taking off and, newly engaged, his personal life was soaring to new heights. Then he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Suddenly Bryan's promising future was looking at a troubling schedule of radiation and chemotherapy. But having found refuge in comedy, Bald Bryan recounts his alternately heartbreaking and hysterical experience of cancer treatment and recovery, from writing his will with the bravado of a pulp novelist, to taking chemo in a strip club, to achieving his life-long dream of getting another woman in the shower with him and his wife (even if it was only for physical therapy). These and other charmingly twisted scenes make the serious truly a laughing matter. Now four years since his initial diagnosis, Bryan celebrates how his aggressive treatment shrunk his tumor and gave him a new lease on life. Through odds and obstacles, blunders and dilemmas, Bryan radiates through his narrative with wonder and humor. This profound, honest, and surprisingly funny recovery book is a Cancer Schmancer for the Jimmy Kimmel Live! crowd.

5.0 out of 5 stars a must read 1 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
A memoir concerning illness can be depressing. Here we have one on the very few honest, account of the authors battle against a tumor. At times it is laugh out loud funny interspersed with more serious times. At times I felt guilty for laughing but it is definitely a book to read. The bravery of the author shines making this one of the best memoirs I have read in a long time
I would recommend this book highly

I've been listening to Bryan on air on the Adam Carolla show and the Film Vault for a few years but this was only since the events of the book. It was a very real look back at a very traumatic time.

I read many chapters with tears in my eyes, but also never went a few ages without a chuckle - and rarely a paragraph without a laugh.

I'd recommend this for anyone who's a fan of his work and anyone who's been (or going through) through a severe Heath scare. There's so much happiness and hope in this book

5.0 out of 5 stars Love, love, love...for so many reasons 29 April 2014

Stayed up all night reading Shrinkage. I loved it. It was sweet, funny, sad, and well written! As a fan of the ACS, I couldn't help but hear the entire thing in Bald Bryan's voice. That's not a bad thing and won't stop me from buying the audio book. Fans of the radio show and the podcast will of course love this book, but I hope the reach goes farther than that. I was diagnosed two years ago with End Stage Renal Disease and am on the kidney transplant list. Living with a chronic illness is tough on the best of days, but your attitude and sense of humor in dealing with it is an inspiration. Now bring on President Me!!

As much as I love Bald Bryan from his Many years on the Adam Carolla show, the real star from this book is Christie. Impossible not to fall in love with this rock star of a wife. God Bless the Bishops for sharing their story. Finished it in a day!

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It's laugh-out loud funny, will make you cry, and is the most beautiful love story. Bryan's journey is an inspiration to anyone dealt the blow of the C-word. This book is perfect for anyone who likes to laugh, or needs a source of hope while coping with cancer. I am blown away by him, and this story. Now excuse, while I go back to page 1 and read it all over again...
