Essential and rewarding,

This book covers 28 of the Shrines to Our Lady in England. In each of the Chapters the author is able to combine both an historic overview and a sense of the atmosphere of today in a book that is both well written and enjoyable to read. Anne Vail adds her own sketches that enhance the book, many of which are amusing cartoons that depict the pilgrims or custodians of today.This is both an excellent read as well as a useful guide, with the Author providing important local visitor information in each Chapter. An essential companion to Pilgrims and travellers alike and for the armchair reader it opens the door to a world that motivates one to get up on your feet and hit the road to visit Walsingham, Evesham or any of these important and fascinating pieces of English history - whatever your faith.
