4.0 out of 5 stars Wicked album 3 Dec 2002
Format:Audio CD
I put the cd into my stereo, and am surprised it didn't eat it up with enjoyment. The intro at the beginning sounds very hellraiser-ish, then whack bang straight into a brilliant industrial ebm tinged track cyberium, the whole album runs like clockwork, each song brilliantly blended into the next with cracking results. Stand out tracks are 'cyberium' 'preacher' and the awesome 'future unknown'.I recommend this album to anybody, you wont be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard-Hitting, Earsplitting Goth/Industrial Music 2 Nov 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Contrary to the title ("Shrieks, Laments and Anguished Cries"), there are no isolated utterances of pain on this CD, though in the beginning track ("Sintro"), a woman ecstatically moans for about 2 minutes. This is a similar beginning to Razed in Black's third CD ("Sacrificed"), where Romell Regulacion is the groaner instead. His frequently escalating shrieks and screams do fit part of the CD title, and at times he pulls off a fairly good impersonation of Trent Reznor.

There are a fair amount of hard-hitting, earsplitting songs with a sexual/S&M theme on this album, such as in track #2 ("Cyberium"): "...don't mind taking my punishment even though I'm not guilty." There are two versions of this song, though I prefer the On Speed version over the Endurance Mix by Birmingham 6. My other favorites: #4: "Control", #7: "Preacher", #9: "Future Unknown", and #11: "Power."

If you like fast, loud techno/electronica with a bit of a goth element thrown in, then this is a good CD (and band/artist) worth listening to. (I just wish I knew what the image was on the front cover.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Well, now! 25 July 2005
By Nails in My Head - Published on Amazon.com

Okay, Shrieks, Laments, and Anguished Cries is not getting reviewed here. Not a personal favorite album of mine, somewhat repetative to be honest. But this re-release is fantastic!! All the bonus tracks are f*cking brilliant. The guitars slide all over the place, the drum tracks are actually inspiring, and one wonders why they never saw the light until now. If you ARE a fan of Shrieks, Laments... Then these new tracks will blow away. If you're not so much, these bonuses may just sway you....!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic new production makes the album better 29 Nov 2006

This is the least talked about Razed In Black album, maybe because people think its dated or boring. I dunno, I really like this album. It has a dark and heavy edge like Sacrificed, but is more electronic like Damaged. Songs like Cyberium, Just Let It Go, and Control get the red red kroovy flowing. Great album to listen to at night. I used to own the original cd release of Shrieks, Laments, and Anguished Cries and I always thought it sounded a little flat and low on the bass end. I took a chance getting this release(something Cleopatra does a lot), and i was blown away. It wasnt the bonus tracks I was blown away by, but by the new production/remastering the album has had. I put the cd in my player and was floored by the new depth to the brooding synth lines and deep bass tones. The beats actually beat hard this time. That and you can actually hear Romell sing on the album...finally. I know that a new remastering cannot improve the quality of the songwriting, but I really like this album so it does make the album 100 percent more enjoyable to me. The bonus tracks are so-so, which is to be expected, especially on a Cleo re-release. The best one would prolly be Metamorphosis. Bottom line, is that if you have never heard this album, but liked the other two(Sacrificed/Damaged), then you must get this because it got a serious make-over. If you like electronic-based industrial with heavy guitars ala KMFDM, NIN, or Ministry, then of course you need to check Razed In Black out. An essential album and essential band of mid to late 90's industrial. Have fun and be evil.
