Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Anybody who owns the first two Shrek soundtracks knows that ogres inspire not only charming films but great music--last time out, Pete Yorn, Counting Crows, and Joseph Arthur left monster-sized impressions, and the original movie let loose a masterful rendition of "Hallelujah" by a still-under-the-radar Rufus Wainwright. This go-round the proceedings are playful but backward-looking: Fergie's freewheeling take on the Heart standby "Barracuda" leavens Harry Chapin's "Cat's in the Cradle," and Wolfmother's guitar-heavy "Joker and the Thief" stands up straighter than classic rock fans might like alongside Led Zeppelin's classic "Immigrant Song." Eels returns, this time with two doleful but sweet selections, and Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas again cut up (but still manage to carry off) a classic: Here, Sly & the Family Stone's "Thank You (Falletin Me Be Mice Elf Again)" gives up the funk and the fun. The court will be split on a certain actor's absence from the disc; King Arthur, played by Justin Timberlake, might have done a mean cover of Moody Blues' "Nights in White Satin." But we'll never know. --Tammy La Gorce

I have just been to see Shek the Third and although enjoyable I have to admit that it wasn't as good as Shrek 2.

However, the soundtrack is amazing, there are a couple of great tracks from the Eels alongside the brilliant Wolfmother and a bit of The Ramones. All topped off with the usual mixture of themed songs, (surprisingly Antonio Banderas isn't too bad a singer!)

All in all definitely a good buy with something for everyone.

Movie soundtracks are often a bit of a disappointment. But not this one. Of the four Shrek movie soundtracks this has the strongest/strangest mix of tracks. From Led Zeppelin, Wolfmother to Wings and Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas doing a storming cover of Heart's Barracuda this is a great eclectic mix of tracks which all feature strongly in the film. This CD has been in heavy rotation in my household helping my daugher to discover more of the wonder of 70's style rock. There is room for more mellow moments too from Matt White, Harry Chapin and Macy Gray. I wouldn't collect all the Shrek soundtracks if I was you...give the 4th one a body swerve. The others have their moments from Counting Crows Accidentally in Love on Shrek 2 and I'm on my way by the Proclaimers from the original movie but Shrek the Third is easily the best of the franchise soundtracks.

Killer cover 8 April 2011

To be honest, I bought this for one reason only - Fergie's brilliant rendition of 'Barracuda'! Talk about bringing a classic standard screaming and kicking into the present. Great track.
