Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Animated movie Shrek, like The Muppet Show or The Simpsons, is tiered with visual appeal, fantasy, and sophisticated humour that appeals to children and adults on two mutually exclusive levels. Judging by the soundtrack alone, there is some genuine emotion coming from this movie; Rufus Wainwright, the Proclaimers, and especially the Eels all pen winsome, longing tunes. Dana Glover's "It Is You (I Have Loved)" represents the soundtrack's requisite glossy ballad, but it's better than most, and John Powell's climactic, orchestral "True Love's First Kiss" makes one wish there was a full score to accompany this soundtrack. On the flip side, Smash Mouth cover the Monkees' "I'm a Believer" with a groovy treatment of crunchy hip-hop beats, and Leslie Carter (sister of Aaron and Nick) gives a perky performance on the Britney-esque "Like Wow!" The soundtrack squeezes the last drops of juice from the overplayed Smash Mouth hit "All Star," but other than that, it strikes a great balance between cute-but-not-precious pop hits, and more grown-up songs that are well within reach of young ears. --Beth Massa

Like wow! 18 Jan 2004

Like...well, wow! This is a total feel good album that could probally stand on its own legs without the help of the movie. This is a seriously good complimation of songs with a song for everyone; rock, pop, ballad and, though it's a bit thin on the ground, an origanal orchestrated piece is included. The standout tracks, in my opinion, are I'm on my Way (The Proclaimers, whose album Sunshine on Leith I strong recommend to search out) and everyones favorite, Rufus Wainwright's Hallelujah. I also think Jason Wade's You Belong to Me deserves a mention as being just a good as ballad as Hallelujah and is garanteed to get anyone in a slushy mood! And for those who aren't into ballads, there's other great tracks such as the amazing Bad Reputation, which I love dispite usually hating this kind of thing. Great film and great album!

If you've seen the funniest animated movie for a long time then you'll know the music helped make Shrek a success. Some excellent foot tapping tracks, which take you right back to the film. Its also well worth listening to whilst driving as it certainly motors along. My only criticism is that it's a bit short, just under 40 minutes

Although I absolutely adored the film, I hesitated over buying the soundtrack. However, it's well worth it! Dana Glover singing "It is you I have loved" is one of the most moving songs I've ever heard and The Proclaimers "I'm on my way" can't fail to cheer you up! Every song on this album reminds you of a classic part in the movie. Although there are some witty songs on the soundtrack, it's all music with total heart. If you loved the film, you'll LOVE this.
