2.0 out of 5 stars GreAt film - Flat 3D 21 Feb 2012
By Phelix
In my opinion, Shrek is a must have movie. So, when I saw this 3D Blu-ray, I didn't hesitate in buying it, despite it having quite a hefty price tag... To say I'm disappointed is a massive understatement. There are scenes I was looking forward to in 3D, particularly when our protagonists rescue Fiona from the dragon... I won't dwell on what scenes should have looked outstanding, just none of them did!! The 3D 'effect' seems to pull the background out from behing the main action without bringing up close images out of the tv. In fact, I kept looking over my glasses as the picture seemed so two dimensional that I was straining my eyes to the point where I was getting a headache... Trust me, it isn't my set up. I have watched over a dozen 3D films on my tv since I bought it, including Legend of the Guardians, Megamind, Avatar and lots of IMAX features, and each of them have many layers of 3D and the pictures pop right out of the screen. The Shrek conversion seems to be background and foreground seperation and that's it. If the forthcoming 3D conversions of other popular films such as Star Wars, Titanic and Finding Nemo are anything like this, then I shall not be watching them.

2 stars then, 4 for the film, but -2 for the lack of real purpose of converting this film... At a point where 3D can be made or broken, it's efforts like this that will eventually sink what could be the most exciting advent in home entertainment since surround sound. If you're looking for a 3D film to show off your tv to family and friends then I recommend Megamind.

2.0 out of 5 stars Get the regular Blu-ray instead! 4 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase
I love Shrek - the two stars are because of the lousy 3D, not the film.
After owning the DVD I wanted to "upgrade" to the 3D Blu-ray, but the 3D was an incredible disappointment! After about ten minutes of double vision, we turned it off and popped in the regular 2D Blu-ray instead, which looked pristine and FABULOUS! So if you're thinking of an upgrade or just buying the HD version, I recommend you just get the 2D Blu-ray instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars The screen comes alive 4 Jan 2012
By Wiz
Shrek as a film is great but viewing this in 3D is spectacular. The quality of 3D imaging is amazing and the screen really comes alive when watching. As good as anything I have seen at universal studios in Florida

3.0 out of 5 stars Cash Pinata 23 Jan 2012
If you are reading this review you are most likely an early adopter like me. You've got the 3D tele, the 3D bluray and you're looking for content.

I personally love Shrek and think the movie is fantastic. I have not seen this in 3D, but I've no doubt the visuals are spectacular. But my issue is the idea that I would be charged over 20 for every Shrek movie in 3D. I already paid at the cinema, again on DVD, potentially again on Bluray (not yet in my case) and now for 3D I'm being charged more for an 11 year old movie than for a new one (see Tintin 3D, which I will buy). Add to that if I want to get all of them I have to buy them individually at top price, rather than having a better value boxset.

Much as I want this and all the other Shrek movies in 3D, enough is enough. Being an early adopter doesn't mean I'm a cash pinata to be beaten repeatedly until every last pound falls out. Offer me a decent value proposition and I'm there. But since that's not the case I'm voting with my wallet.
