Product Description

Those who saw Shrek 2 know the critics were thrilled for good reason, and those who hear the soundtrack will understand why music reviewers are hauling out the high praise. This is mood-mending, day-making stuff--that it happens to appeal to kids and adults couldn't matter less. Picking a standout among this hit parade is challenging--they are all great, including Counting Crows swingy "Accidentally in Love," and Pete Yorn's adrenaline-stirring "Ever Fallen in Love," as well as the more subdued soothers like Tom Waits' exquisite "Little Drop of Poison," and Joseph Arthur's yearning-burning "You're So True". --Tammy La Gorce

5.0 out of 5 stars great partner to the film 22 July 2004
By "lfaz"
I was sitting watching the film in the cinema and suddenly jenifer saunders started to sing holding out for a hero. It was really good and I thought straight away that I had to buy the soundtrack, hoping this song would be on. When I saw that it was, along with Livin La Vida Loca sang by Eddie Murphy & Antonio Banderas, I had to buy it there and then. I know that whenever I have a party I'll be playing this Cd as it has so many good songs to sing along to. They also remind you of the film- great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't get enough of this CD! 16 Jun 2004
I've been eagerly awaiting the release of Shrek 2, and thought I'd treat myself to the soundtrack in anticipation - this CD is brilliant - every single song is brilliant! Jennifer Saunders singing 'holding out for a hero' and Eddie Murphy & Antonio Banderas 'Livin La Vida Loca' are particualy favourites! Accidently in Love is an amazing song - great for driving to in the car.
This CD is perfect for listening when driving or doing boring housework, but especially for when freinds are round! You can all sing a long to the songs and have a great time!
Definitley a must buy! Can't afford to miss out!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not 2 bad... 8 April 2005
I absolutely loved the original Shrek album and so was hoping of more of the same from the second. I wasn't disappointed. There are some great tunes on here, notably Counting Crows 'Accidentally In Love' which is the pure essence of summer with it's 'Strawberry Ice-Cream' lyric. Also Dashboard Confessional's 'As Lovers Go' which is lovely in its seduction. I love Joseph Arhtur's 'You're So Real' with the sixties clapping in the chorus - it's great. Then you've got the cover versions which are fantastic whether they stick close to the original like 'Changes' and 'Ever Fallen In Love' or almost start from scratch like Frou Frou's 'Holding On For A Hero'. Although I prefer the first Shrek soundtrack, as I find myself skipping tracks on this one, the great songs are definitely worth it. And if you've been waiting to capture Puss and Donkey putting Ricky Martin out of a job on 'Livin' la Vida Loca', look no further.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first, but still worth buying 14 May 2007
I know I'm not the only one who, having seen the first Shrek, rushed out to see Shrek 2 on the day of release, and I was expecting brilliant things from this soundtrack too. As the first one was somewhat legendary, the second one was always going to have a lot to live up to. In its own right, it's a good album, with pretty much everything we expect from Shrek: a bit of sillyness with "Lipps, Inc - Funkytown" and "Eddie Murphy & Antonio Banderas - Livin' La Vida Loca", some laid back tunes with "Dashboard Confessional - As Lovers Go" and "Counting Crows - Accidentally In Love", and a couple of reasonably downbeat and depressing songs - "Eels - I Need Some Sleep" and "Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - People Ain't No Good". Compared with the first album though, I didn't feel it had quite the same Oomph. Don't get me wrong, if I went back I'd still definitely buy it again without a shadow of a doubt, as it is fantastic =0), but it only gets four stars as the first one was just that teeny bit better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superd soundtrack- perfect film! 4 Nov 2004
By A Customer
I absolutley loved the film and the feeling is mutual with its companion soundtrack. By far my favourite song is the counting crows - 'Accidentally in love', which starts the film, its just a superb cd packed with a lot of fun songs from the film. Highlights are I love every song- even though some songs only feature in the movies end credits (i checked). Also look out for the songs performed by the film stars-The brilliant Jennifer Saunders fairytale song and holding out for a hero are a joy to listen too, also puss and donkeys version of Livin la vida loka.
So buy this cd if you a) liked/loved the film or b) Loved the music to a fantastic sequel film.I am now awaiting a release of the srek 2 score- i thought the score was so nice and enchanting. BUY THIS CD!!!

This album has such a mix of music on it, and it just makes you chuckle as you remember the film. Totally recommend it, ok you might get few looks when Ms Saunders is belting out Holding Out For A Hero on your car stereo!! But Hey, Sing your heart out!

4.0 out of 5 stars Everyone's missing the point.... 25 Jan 2005
While i have to agree with most of what everyone else has said - this is undeniably a great soundtrack after all - no-one seems to have noticed that the absolute stand-out track is Frou Frou's totally briliant re-invention of 'holding out for a hero'. This track alone makes the album a worthwhile buy! has no-one else realised this??? It rocks!!!
All in all an exceptional soundtrack...but listen to Frou Frou first!

5.0 out of 5 stars A near perfect Soundtrack 21 July 2004
By A Customer
From the fun and cheerful cover of Livin' La viva Loca by Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas to the haunting cover of Holding out for a Hero by Frou Frou, this is one of those Soundtracks that is great from start to finish.

All of the songs (though not some of the filler music) are there, even the Disney spoofing Fairy Godmother Song (naturally) so if you are buying it for a particular song you should not be disappointed.

Music helps add atmosphere to a film, and this is one that helped give the film the energy and vibrancy we saw at the cinema, it is not a CD you can just sit down and listen to.

The bonus disc that comes with the limited edition is short but nice to own, a video of Counting Crows amazing song Accidentally in Love, and an exclusive trailer.

All in all a fantastic, feel good Soundtrack.
