I know I'm not the only one who, having seen the first Shrek, rushed out to see Shrek 2 on the day of release, and I was expecting brilliant things from this soundtrack too. As the first one was somewhat legendary, the second one was always going to have a lot to live up to. In its own right, it's a good album, with pretty much everything we expect from Shrek: a bit of sillyness with "Lipps, Inc - Funkytown" and "Eddie Murphy & Antonio Banderas - Livin' La Vida Loca", some laid back tunes with "Dashboard Confessional - As Lovers Go" and "Counting Crows - Accidentally In Love", and a couple of reasonably downbeat and depressing songs - "Eels - I Need Some Sleep" and "Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - People Ain't No Good". Compared with the first album though, I didn't feel it had quite the same Oomph. Don't get me wrong, if I went back I'd still definitely buy it again without a shadow of a doubt, as it is fantastic =0), but it only gets four stars as the first one was just that teeny bit better.
