Advice is given on show preparation, conditioning and training for the show ring as well as on specific care and turnout requirements for individual breeds. There are sections on shoeing, tack and correct dress of the handler or rider. Individual shows and ringcraft techniques are described, together with tips on how to maximize a pony's potential to present it in the show ring to best advantage. About the Author
Clive Richardson was honorary secretary/treasurer of the Fell Pony Society for nearly ten years. As a successful exhibitor of native ponies both in this country and abroad, he won innumerable championships at national level before retiring from showing to concentrate on judging and writing. He is on a number of judges' panels and has judged extensively in this country as well as in America and on the continent. As well as writing three previous books on Fell ponies and many magazine articles on native breeds, he has produced a compilation of Fell pony bloodlines from 1898 to 1980 inclusive. Clive Richardson is also the author of The Horse Breakers.

I found this book rather disappointing. It probably does contain all the necessary information but I do not think the book is very clearly laid out; I found it quite hard going. None of the photographs are labelled either, which I thought was a shame. I was hoping the book would list each breed individually, the desired confirmation and how and what to show the horse in, but it's all a bit of a jumble! I'm new showing and was hoping this guide would be as good as the rest of the Photo Guide series, but I don't feel it is.
