Book Description

He’s a radio star, she’s a model.

They had everything. Then disaster ripped their life apart.

Russ Kane is familiar to millions across Greater London as the voice of Capital Radio’s Flying Eye. He and his wife Sally appear to be a ‘perfect couple’ who seem to have it all. Yet behind this public image lies a private history of tragedy that would have broken any but the most profound relationship.

When, shortly after their wedding, Sally was told she was expecting twins, their life seemed complete. Little did they know that the birth would almost kill mother and children and that, unbelievably, Russ would be simultaneously involved in a life-threatening car accident.

Just as their life finally seemed to be getting back on track, sally was diagnosed with breast cancer – she was about to face a two-year ordeal that was to, once again throw their lives into chaos.

Written with extraordinary candour, their individual brands of humour and page-turning tension, Shout at the Moon is, above all, a story of the triumph of the human spirit to rise above overwhelming odds.

’True tonic for the heart’ – Vanessa Feltz, Daily Express

’An amazing couple. It’s real inspiration’ – Lorraine Kelly, GMTV

'It's the story of a modern-age miracle...I am proud to know them' - Chris Tarrant

5.0 out of 5 stars The book that will make you laugh and cry 26 Oct. 2001
By A Customer
Anybody involved in any kind of relationship will know that at times we face pressures which cause us to evaluate the relationship and its future. Shout at the Moon is written by Russ and Sally Kane and chronicles the trials and tribulations from the very start of their relationship.
Russ Kane is known to his three million daily listeners as the voice of the flying eye on Capital Radio. His wife Sally was a successful designer in the fashion industry. Their relationship should have been perfect. But like all things there is only so much control we really have over our own lives.
The books charts the terrible pressures the couple faced from Sally's brush with death whilst giving birth to the twins to Russ Kane's near fatal car accident.
The book is brilliantly written with Russ and Sally giving their separate views of the relationship and its events. One minute they will have you laughing, the next you will be close to tears.
The book will appeal to anybody who themselves has suffered personal tragedy as another persons experience of pain and suffering often act as a type of therapy. It will also appeal to those who view themselves as having the perfect life as it will make you appreciate how lucky you are.
This book offers a ray of hope to all those involved in relationships that even when life seems to have dealt you a killer blow there is a way out.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was very impressed with the book. 26 Oct. 2001
By A Customer
Wow! I started reading your book on Tuesday morning and finished it the same day. I could not put it down......nor could I believe that so much could be visited on so few for so long.
As I turned each page, I kept thinking, "Surely that is it. Surely they get a reprieve now." But
no, you dragged me mercilessly through the emotional spectrum time and time again.
I laughed, I cried, I swore and I did all three at the same time in places! The most chilling thing to me, was remembering where I was on certain dates and then comparing my experience to yours. No comparison... I know whose piece of paper I would rather have drawn out of the hat!
I was very impressed with the book and loved both your styles of writing.

This book gives an open invitation into the lives of the authors. It is a love story that is about courage and belief, but also gives an honest account of the tragedy some people have to endure day after day. It is sensatively written and draws you into its trauma page after page. It is compelling stuff to read and apart from being real is very tragic. I couldn't put it down and highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about real people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Their courage was amazing, compelling read. 22 Jan. 2002
By A Customer
Once you start this book, you cannot put it down. The dreadful life crisis situations they found themselves in were incomprehensible, unbelieveable - how could life deliver so many terrible blows in such a short time and they got through every one.
Makes you really count your blessings and question why we all worry over trivia when these 2 people coped with so much at once.
Very well written, I am now mourning the fact I've finished it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly inspiring book - couldn't put it down! 24 Oct. 2001

If you've ever felt that your world was closing in then this book will show you that there will always be someone having it worse than you!

'Shout at the Moon' is an amazingly witty and humorous account of 6 years in the life of Russ and Sally Kane. It talks about real-life issues including breast cancer, falling in love and the daily routine of having family and job in an accessible and deeply honest way.
If you know of anyone having a hard time at the moment get them to read this book and see how positive thought and real family love will always pull them through.
Sally's handling of her breast cancer offers wonderful inspiration to others and this book should be a must-have for anyone who has any experience of the disease.
She looks amazingly sexy on the cover too!!
A brilliant read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Did the moon shout back 10 Feb. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition
I chose this rating as I love reading an eclectic mix of books from Tess Gerretsonn to Catherine Cookson. This book was different to any other I have read as it did not try and sugar coat over any bits that might have upset the reader or themselves, they gave you the whole story as it was which must have been emotional for them to write and friends to remember and read. I could not put this book down and would recommend it to anyone who wants a true reflection of family life at its best and at many times its worst.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did not like this book at all... 5 Dec. 2005
I have recurrent cancer so was very interested in reading about Ross and Sally's experiences but was very disappointed. Sally's writings were interesting but Ross's were not. The biggest message I got from this book was that Ross and Sally were part of the beautiful dropping occurred constantly. They did go through some tragic times and I was sad to hear that Sally passed after the book was published...however I felt what could have been a poignant story was reduced to the "We're Celebrities, Read all About What Important People We Hang Out With."
I would not waste my time on this book.
