Biography

The Psychedelic Furs have earned tremendous respect from critics and fans alike for their music’s mix of punk rock, poetic lyricism and seductive rhythmic hooks. Fronted by vocalist and chief songwriter, Richard Butler, The Furs built a reputation as one of the most riveting musical forces to come out of the early 80s post-punk, new wave era. The band charted big hits with "Love My ... Read more in Amazon's The Psychedelic Furs Store

This is a great collection from a most underrated band. 2 CD's which really capture the best and the vibe of the Furs at a budget price. With 'India' followed by 'Sister Europe' , quite correctly opening disc one, you're immediatelly immersed in that rich velvety Furs sound, Distinctive and unique. It ploughs on thru 'Mack the Knife' (yes, that 'Mack the Knife' but not as we know it Jim), 'President Gas', 'Heaven', 'High Wire Days' - a great collection. If you havent a clue what I'm talking about then find it in the library before you invest.

My Nephew lent me his Furs vinyl so I stuck it all on cassettes and played it in the car persistently until it blurred into a gray fog of a noise and I threw the knackered tapes away or they broke. To get it here again, pristine and remastered, is to rediscover it all in vibrant dayglow colours. 'Here Come Cowboys', 'Alice's House', 'Heartbeat', 'There's a World', 'Into you like a Train' - it just keeps you in a beautiful vibe with track after track of streetwise insight for the introspective.

For the uninitiated don't let the band's name lead you to believe this is some hippy, trippy, jangly bells, sixties music. It's solid layered sound with a persistent sax lying deep in the mix, emerging at times to compliment Richard Butler's rasping but wholly tuneful vocal. Sometimes a string quartet, sometimes a whole brass section or marimbas, sometimes I just don't know what I'm listening to. The lyrics are thoughtful and the imagery intense. There are rockers and ballads and they're all spot on the money. Check it out - I guarantee you'll be far from disappointed.

The Psychedelic Furs are my fave band ever and this compilation shows why, with 33 tracks (plus one hidden!) of melody, noise, and raw emotion: their beautiful chaos! It's got all the pop hits like "Heaven", "Love My Way", and "Pretty in Pink"; all the old classics like "India", "Into You Like a Train", and "Highwire Days"; and plenty of their overlooked but nevertheless brilliant later tracks such as "Until She Comes", "All That Money Wants", and the heartbreaking "Torch". You couldn't really ask for more now, could you?

THE PSYCHEDELIC FURS ARE A LINK BETWEEN PUNK AND NIRVANA. INDIA THE OPENING TRACK IS A GREAT SOLID PIECE THAT ROCKS. I FIND THE VOCALS A BIT MONOTONE ON SOME TRACKS
BUT ALLIN ALL IT WORKS. THEIR VERSION OF MACK THE KNIFE IS DIFFERENT AND QUIRKY.
AN ENJOYABLE PURCHASE
