Book Description

Victorian Era England...
As far as rash decisions go, it was formidable. But Lady Jocelyn Rathbourne's will remains strong. If the only way to save her family's estate and reputation is by aiming a small pistol at the Duke of Calydon, then so be it. For Lady Jocelyn demands satisfaction - and she will have it at any cost. Even if it means demanding the hand of the intense and foreboding Duke himself...
But she's made the first move against a very dangerous opponent...
For Sebastian Thornton is no stripling to be trifled with. The lady has played her hand. Now it's his turn. For Sebastian is in need of a wife. And to find a wife with spirit and fire - even if she means to only marry for his money - would be a great prize indeed. And he intends to thoroughly take his pleasure with her... and demands his own satisfaction in return.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down. 9 May 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Truth be told, this isn't my standard read. A friend of mine who introduced me to the Alchemist suggested I expand my horizons since i'll easy go through personal development books. It took me awhile but I finally chose this book.

I liked the cover but we all know you shouldn't judge a book on that basis. I started reading this on the train and it completely pulled me in, intrigued at what would happen next. I could very easily have missed my stop had some guy not pushed past me averting my attention.

Very will writing in my opinion.

I'm not used to intimacy in a book due to my aforementioned book choices. I almost felt embarrassed whilst reading on the train, as though my neighbor could hear the words I was reading. I often tried to hide the fact that I was smiling like a Cheshire cat through some chapters. Some bits made me chuckle and other parts were intense.

    Expand my horizons? It did.
    Recommend? I would.

    Happy reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who says romance is dead? by Hayley Lawrence 18 April 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
One cannot help but fall in love with Sebastian, this dashing Duke of Calydon, who is brought to life by Stacy Reid. This book captivated me from the first scene with feisty Jocelyn and the imposing Duke. There was enough passion, seduction, romance and love to make the Duke’s Shotgun Wedding worth the read. It was an unusual and interesting plot, which complements this genre, and made me wonder what would happen in the next chapter. The writer was very imaginative and I couldn’t help but want these two lovers to have their happily ever after. This is a great read and I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Debut Delight by Giselle Marks 14 April 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition
Stacy Reid’s first published novella “The Duke’s Shotgun Wedding” is a joyful foray into the realms of historical romance, with an impulsive heroine and an impassive but sensuous hero. Jocelyn bounces into Sebastian’s notice with a revolver levelled at him and he readily agrees to marry her. She is a delight that disrupts his life and revels in his nightly love-making as he takes her to unexpected heights of bliss. His attempts to feel nothing more than lust for her are swept away by her irrepressible love for him and life. An amusing romp with impressive style, I can’t wait to read more of Stacy Reid’s future offerings.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Alluring Read 3 May 2014

This was an enjoyable read. I liked the sexual and emotional connection between Jocelyn and Sebastian. While I wanted it to be a little longer, I enjoyed every page and I read it in one sitting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lovely historical romance 3.5 stars 8 Aug. 2014
    By Deborah TOP 500 REVIEWER
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As far as reading goes historical romances were my first love but recently due mainly to the vast choice available and the ease of downloading on to my kindle I've been reading a wider range of books but it was good getting back in the past.
Lady Jocelyn Rathbourne is desperate, her father is impoverished and in danger of losing the family estate on top of which she has siblings with no decent future in sight unless she can do something, the something she decides to do is to hold a gun to the head of the Duke of Calydon. Now the Duke, Sebastian is not a man to be messed with but since he finds himself in need of an heir and therefore a wife things might work out alright.
While I enjoyed this book I admit I struggled at the beginning, it seemed so far-fetched but I'm glad I continued reading because I really enjoyed it, great characters and story, so in the end I loved it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately, it read like a prequel ... 18 July 2015
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was very disappointed with this book. I came to it as I had already read Sins of a Duke, not realising it was the 3rd in a series. As a stand alone book, this was great and I thoroughly enjoyed it - a five star read. When I realised that there were two books already in the series, I immediately got this - the first one. Unfortunately, it read like a prequel - and a hastily written one at that. The storyline was interesting, and it should have been at least double the lenth to explore its potential. Maybe I shouldn't have expected too much as it was very much novella length. There were the genesis of the two further books squeezed into this story. I feel sure that if I had read it first I wouldn't have enjoyed the suspense of the third book as I would have already known part of the plot, and this may also be the case with the second book as well.

My advice to potential readers is to miss this novella out and go straight to the Sins of a Duke, which is book length. It is better written and explores the characters in more depth. Also, although I never mind a bit of explicit passion as part of a story, I felt the percentage of this short story taken up with this aspect was too high - almost gratuitous. I do have a broader understanding of Sebastian and Jocelyn through reading it - but it was not up to the standard that I expected from Ms Reid. (I have also read a charming short story by her, recently published in a 'boxed-set' quartet by different authors.)

This book is capitivating thus, I could not put it down. It evoke something deep inside me. Sebastian is so hot! I believe he has met his match Jocelyn. I'm not an avid reader of historical romance novels..however, this has caused a crave for more. Thank you Stacy Reid.
I'm looking forward to your other books.
