This film brings us to the onset of the Sarajevo siege, during the Bosnian conflict, and is a breathtaking account of two close friends, a Muslim and a Serb, who compete in rifle target shooting, in preparation for the Olympic Games.
At the eve of the event, instead of competing together in the same national team, fate takes them to opposite sides of a fratricide conflict, and their sporting skills are used to more sinister ends.
This is by far the best film I have seen about the war in Bosnia, with all its horror and absurdity.
It plunges the viewer in a scenario where every civilian is fair game for snipers, where every corner of what used to be a vibrant, normal city was transformed in a ruthless killing ground.
It is also a journey into the complexities of the human mind, taken through the paths of two men.
The initial normality of the main characters, with their cosmopolitan lives, causes a very disturbing contrast when we find them again, later in the film, hardened and embittered fighters, engaging in a cruel, retributive engagement that leads us to the dramatic outcome.
The acting is immaculate and the soundtrack makes the experience that bit more intense.
Definitely a maelstrom of a film and a "must see".

Two friends who are expert sporting marksmen become divided by the Bosnian war and find themselves on opposing sides. A thrilling "cat and mouse" sniper film based in the ruined landscape of the Balkan war. Must be seen.
