I was really impressed by Michael Smith when I saw his tv programmes on the BBC about Britain and Driving. He has a lovely speaking voice. It's very calming and soothing and he says wonderful things. ( I wish i could do justice to his talents).I looked him up on Amazon and there were two books available. 'Shorty love Wing Wong' and'The Giro Playboy'). Both books are like Michael Smith's speaking voice - Brilliant. Shorty Loves Wing Wong is about home town memories, good and bad. It has brilliant illustrations by Jim Medway - the characters have cat faces and paws and human bodies. In fact the whole book is a thing of great beauty and Michael Smith is a Great British Writer.

Perfect! The words are beautiful, the illustration is on another, or from another planet. This book sits perfectly between my own first edition of Jonathon Livingstone Seagull, and my Daughters battered editions of Dr Seuss. Somehow this book just works. From cover to cover, it's either an illustrated drawing of a Catman, or a lovely piece of narrative that consumes you for a while. It's dreamy and it's bizarre. Being a lover of fine publishing, I limited myself to a couple of reads, and then this book was carefully wrapped and protected until the day I lose my sense of romanticism!

a likeable book,

A sweet but sour tale, which starts as the author returns to Hartlepool where he grew up.His memories and meet ups are detailsed alongside awesome drawings of people with cat heads. Taking in the strangeness of the Headland alongside the mundane aceness of meeting up with old family and friends for a drink and chat, this is a lovely book.
