Product Description

A guidebooks to 40 day walks in the Dolomites. The walks vary in length from around three miles to full-day excursions, both in the high mountains and in valleys. I used this book on 2 trips, I organised to the Dolomites.I would highly recommend it, good selection of walks, maybe some a bit on the short side, and lots of other information, such as details of where various buses go. Like any guidebook it is out of date as soon as published, and of course you need to buy a map for the area, but I going back to the Dolomites in July, and will take this book along, together with its companion, "walking in the Dolomites", (many of which can be done in a day).

As I have not yet made any of the walks, I cannot be sure that the guidance is good. However, it has helped to plan where to base myself for a trip planned for September 2010 to explore some of the most interesting parts of the Dolomites. Only then I could choose a hotel.
It is difficult to know where to start when you do not know an area with as many options as there are here. The maps (Tabacco) which are recommended in the book are also rather hard to follow. My goal is to find rewarding but not challenging walks, using the lift systems to get up to the higher levels and wanting to be on foot for 4 to 6 hours per day. The book has helped to choose these and to avoid, I hope, the more extreme walks.

A very useful guide 29 Sep 2008
Format:Paperback
This book helped greatly in finding walks in areas outside of the part of the Dolomites that we know best. Its not step by step detail and assumes some competence on the part of the user; thats fine because I need suggestions and a gentle steer, not hand holding. On return from Italy there were a small number of quibbles concerning changes in signage and other details that we had noticed along the way that we notified to Cicerone. We were very surprised to be contacted by the author to discuss the points raised. That's customer service and its very clear that its a guide written by an enthusiast: you can't want more.
