Product Description

Product Description

The Apollo Saxophone Quartet's vibrant and energetic exploration of portugese music is full of unexpected treasures. Encompassing a kaleidoscopic range of styles, including classical, rock, post-minimalist, jazz and experimental influences, this is one of the most colourful discs to be recently released on Quartz.

From the Artist

About their new disc "Short Cuts", the Quartet writes: The Apollo directly commissioned the piece "Short Cuts" from Luis Tinoco in 2003; subsequently he drew our attention to the wealth of Portuguese composers who would be keen to write for saxophone quartet. Luis has been our invaluable musical "guide" and coordinator in Portugal for this CD, which has been generously funded by The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation's Programme for Anglo-Portuguese Cultural Relations, directed in the UK by Miguel Santos. Luand Miguel have been hugely instrumental in enabling this project and we thank them for their tireless assistance.
