4.0 out of 5 stars Not enemy territory... 21 Oct 2012
By Chloe S "Chick Lit Chloe" TOP 500 REVIEWER
Annie feels like she's losing her fashion mojo. She doesn't 'get' any of the fashion on the catwalks or in the shops - it's like she's rewound back to when she was younger and she doesn't know what to do with it. For someone who presents a fashion show, this isn't a good thing. Annie's daughter Lana now lives and work in New York, working with Elena, her colleague at Perfect Dress, their new company which is doing reasonably well. However, when Annie's billionaire friend Svetlana offers Annie the opportunity for some much needed R&R at an Italian spa, Annie jumps at the chance. But as usual, things with Svetlana never quite go to plan and Annie's peaceful break is quickly shattered. Will she be able to help her friend in her hour of need, and save her failing relationship with her daughter before it's too late?!

I was wondering where Reid would be able to go with these characters, as I felt a lot had happened to Annie and her family in the previous 5 books, and whether any further stories starring them would be realistic enough to be believable, or not. I was surprised that the main story of this book didn't really involve fashion at all, and was actually based around Svetlana, not Annie herself. The more secondary storyline with Annie's daughter Lana and their company Perfect Dress was more enjoyable, and I liked reading about the younger members of the cast, and seeing the fire the girls had in their bellies about their product and fashion. Annie seemed a little bit tired and old in this book, and I felt like she wasn't at all the same person we had in the earlier books which was a shame. I didn't like Svetlana much either, she's a bit too much for me and I don't like her attitude and how she treats Annie.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun and enjoyable read xxx 18 Oct 2012
By Megan ReadingInTheSunshine TOP 100 REVIEWER
Fashion expert Annie has a disaster in her life - She's lost her sense of fashion and style. Annie doesn't understand the current trends in the shops, which causes her to panic about her career on a fashion show. To make it worse, she does not seem to be getting on with her daughter Lana , who works in New York for a fashion business that Annie's best friend Svetlana runs. Even Svetlana seems to be having daughter trouble too.

So when Svetlana suggests a trip to a luxurious Italian spa, Annie leaps at the opportunity to be whisked away for some relaxation and to forget about her problems. Unfortunately the trip turns out to be anything but peaceful...

I must admit this is the first book by Carmen Reid that I have read. Previously to this, I was not aware that this is actually the sixth book in the Annie Valentine series. Upon reflection, it would probably have been better for me to read the first five first, as I would probably have a better understanding of the main characters that have featured in previous books, and I'd already have established a connection with them earlier on. I also would have had a better idea of any previous events and the characters backgrounds. However, this can be read as a standalone book, so if like me you haven't yet experienced the Annie Valentine series then don't panic, you can still read and enjoy this novel!

Considering all of that, I did quite enjoy this novel! I found it to be an easy read and the story flowed very well.

It took me a while to warm to Annie, I think at first I didn't understand her, but this again could be due to the fact that I haven't read any of the previous books, so rather than knowing her straight away, it took me a while to work her out and get to know her as a character.

Firstly I have to admit that from the cover I wasn't sure if I would like this book, it did look a little fluffy for my reading tastes but as the saying goes 'never judge a book by its cover'I really enjoyed reading the antics of Annie. This is the first book that I've read by Carmen Reid and I didn't realize it was part of a series but to be honest that didn't matter at all. The book flowed nicely and each character was given enough detail that I didn't actually realize it was part of a series until I read about Carmen herself. The book had action and humor and I found myself giggling out loud about coffee enemas ( there's a sentence I never thought i would say) I thought the character of Svetlana was brilliantly written and I could really hear her accent come across and I loved her eccentric personality.I found this book a lovely easy read and if you like a good makeover show and a little indulgent fashion then this book is a must read for you. After reading this I will look out for more books by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shopping!!! 21 Jan 2014
I love this series of books. Number 6 was one if the best stories yet. Well worth a read. You don't have to have read all the other books to get into the story but this series is well worth a read.

Annie Valentine appears to have lost her Mojo, fallen out with her daughter and piled a few extra pounds. Surely nothing a health spa can't sort out!!.

Recommend this book. Enjoy
