"A darkly humorous play for today's twenty-somethings ... a real coup de theatre"--"Evening Standard"

Product Description

Shopping and F***ing is...Falling in love with your best friend - if you can get the right mix of Es and whizz...Passion buried beneath layers of bubble and wrap and cellophane A world where microwaves are the only source of heat A place where Shopping is sexy and F***ing is a job...And if you killed someone what would it feel like? Or maybe there are no feelings left...Shopping and F***ing is a witty and shocking look at a corrosive disposable world whose values have been determined by a disinherited generation.SHOPPING AND FUCKING: "is a darkly humorous play for today's twenty-somethings ...a real coup de theatre" - Nicholas de Jongh, Evening Standard

Yes, it's naughty words in the title. But there is a hell of a lot more to Ravenhill's masterpiece than bad language. It is exceptionally well written, and considered to be one of the most influencial pieces of contemporary British theatre.

Yes it's quite shocking, certainly graphic, but it also raises several important questions of modern society. For example can we justify anything in this world, no matter how unpleasant, if we call it a transaction?

You should most definitely SEE this play. But if you can't then you must read it.

This play's tremendous influence on all contemporary British playwrights as well as its astonishing commercial success make this the most important play of the 1990's.

Hilariously funny, viscerally shocking and profoundly moving - it will be being argued over for many, many years to come.

Any serious student of theatre should know it back to front.

Shopping and Fucking are the two extreme points of a wicked society. No values, no life. If you live in a market economy, it is the only aim you have in your life. Mark Ravenhill wanted to describe the feeling of the market society. The actors expose there inner feelings. They are junkies, male prostitutes and people who live on the edge of the society. They want to experience real love and give all there feeling in it. But it ends in love selling and defeat. It is a sad drama but you can feel for the actors.

The vulgar language and behaviour makes it a drastic play. A decade on, it didn't lost the power and directness. It characterises the dramas of the nineties.
