Product Description

It's so exciting! How can she contain herself? She tries - but she can't! An enormous sneeze sets in motion a small calamity, and Dad gets the blame. But when his daughter speaks up and takes responsibility for her actions, the mood changes. Fantastic readaloud: fun, fast-paced and full of witty alliterations. This is first-time picture book for popular performance poet Matt Harvey, who is a regular guest on BBC Radio 4's "Saturday Live".

I've now given this to four children in my life - aged between 2 and half and five and half. All of them love it - love the pace and rhythm of the story, find it very funny (the two and half year old has spent all day giggly AACHOO, the 5 year old guffawed at all the mishaps). Their parents say they have enjoyed having to read it - and have had to over and over again. I just love the message behind it - that accidents happen and don't have to be anybody's fault and that things get better quicker if everyone mucks in and helps.... The illustrations are superb too - engaging and funny in themselves

Nice to see mixed-race family featured! 14 Sep 2011
By Kia Birdsong - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
The mom, dad & daughter just happen to look a lot like my family! I love that the book is fun to read, great illustrations, and that my daughter can see our family and her experience reflected in a mainstream children's book. I also love that Dad is getting groceries, while Mom works! My daughter loved the book, and my husband loved reading a book that featured a dad and daughter that looks like them---nice additional bonding, I think. Wish more books showed the diversity of families, while still being a fun and captivating read for all children, regardless of their race or culture. Untapped market, if you ask me, considering the projected demographics for the next 10-20 years. Want to see more from this author/illustrator duo!

Go shopping with Dad! 9 April 2009
By Steven - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Shopping with Dad
When the young girl in this silly story goes shopping with her dad, they've got quite a list from her mom. In addition to the regular groceries, they also need to get things like Weatherbread, Dangerjam, and of course Octopus Underpants. She's trying to be helpful to her dad, really she is, but sometimes trouble just happens. And even when she's trying to stop and just sit still, there's the little matter of a very big sneeze that starts all sorts of very big trouble.

The story of Shopping with Dad will be familiar to dads who've tried to go shopping - or just about anywhere! - with young children. Sometimes it seems that children can't seem to help generating chaos wherever they go, no matter how well-intentioned they are. Shopping with Dad treats this familiar situation with grace and humor through its fun illustrations and whimsical text. There's a deeper message here for fathers as well, because when everyone's looking for the culprit responsible for the big mess, it's dad who defuses the situation and brings everything back to normal again. Shopping with Dad is a fun book for kids, but also a reminder to dads to keep our cool and to face the trials of fatherhood with humor and compassion.
I could take it or leave it... 13 Oct 2011

The illustrations are GREAT - which is what drew me to the book. However, I was disappointed with the story. Its a rhyming story, but it does not flow AT ALL (maybe a random line or paragraph here & there. The actual story wasn't horrible, has potential, but I don't think we'll read it again.
