I ordered PJ Tracy's book 'Play to Kill' Play to Kill and spotted 'Shoot to Thrill' at the same time. I thought that it was another new novel and ordered it. I finished reading the book and was anticipating receiving this story. The next day when this audio book arrived I was disappointed to discover that it is the same story under a different title.

I listened to the first two chapters and found that it is very well read.

All is not lost though. I have a visually impaired friend so will be able to pass the CD along so it won't be wasted.

I have read all of the Monkeewrench books and as always, this one delivers with great pace and a fascinating story line. The individual members of the team are like old friends and I found it hard to put the book down. The introduction of a new helper in John Smith brings a new dimension but leaves me wondering at the end. My only regret is that I have to wait for the next one to come out.

Shoot to Thrill is the fifth MonkeeRench novel and can be read as a standalone story and although there are recurring characters in each of the books, Shoot to Thrill offers very little new content in the dynamics of the group.

The story is an enjoyable chase after an internet-savvy psychopath who posts his kills on-line. The authors evidence an ability to juggle hard crime with interesting and entertaining detectives with some cracking dialogue. There's not as much content as the previous entries and the character interaction helps keep the pages turning. There is a disjointed slice of action in the final third which offers no story development and seems rather out of place, however that aside Shoot to Thrill remains an enjoyable, if rather shallow, crime story.
