Product Description

Fictional thriller that deals with the fallout from a suspected terrorist attack on the London underground. In the aftermath of the July 7th London bombings, Muslim police commander Tariq Ali (Naseeruddin Shah) is given the job of investigating police actions when a suspected bomber is shot dead in a terrorist alert on the underground. Despite the fact that Tariq has worked his way up the career ladder at New Scotland Yard, he soon comes under pressure from the media and his fellow officers over his apparent friendship with Junaid (Om Puri), an Islamic leader with purported links to terrorist groups. The film also stars Brian Cox, Greta Scacchi and Sadie Frost.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very watchable 11 July 2009

I found this DVD almost by accident and watched it just days after the four year anniversary of the London suicide bombings. It was based on sentiments expressed and still felt, after that awful day. It was a very good film, very watchable. Some of the dialogue was a bit corny and contrived in parts - but overall, it was a fair representation of people from both communities - Muslim and Christian alike. Both the good, and the bad parts of our character. It showed clearly that the Police cant win, what ever they do. They are criticized if they act too slowly, if they act too quickly. The film is more based on emotion, than action packed. But, it is worth a watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greta Scacchi 22 Jan 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is not the topic of film which usually interests me. I bought this quite simply because I collect films that feature Geta Scacchi. She is (as usual) brilliant in her role, however the film does not centre around her and contains much more than this. It is totally engaging, enlightening and displays several outstanding performances by an overall super cast. On such a delicate issue, this adaptation shows the many (if not all) sides of human emotion and moral beliefs. I rate this very highly as an thoroughly enjoyable drama/thriller, and I'm sure you will not be disappointed. Certainly I consider this film very good value for money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Usual Suspects 28 April 2010
By Darcy
Format:DVD
I was bought up under the principles that if one has nothing nice to say, then do not say anything at all. Yet, I feel that I need to share my thoughts about this particular film. It's seems to me that the media have totally brainwashed the whole world into thinking that every Muslim on this planet is a terrorist. We are exposed to over 400 negative thoughts and images a daily, compared to only 1 or 2 positive thoughts.

This film had so much potential, yet it did not produce any positive outcomes, and unfortunately will not leave you any wiser!! It moved at a slow pace and Naseeruddin Shah looked out of his league, playing the main character in this film.

The film centres on Police Commander Tariq Ali (NS), who is bought in to investigate the shooting of an innocent bystander, who happens to be a Muslim, like Commander Ali. Yet personal issues both at home and work soon take their toll on Commander Ali and things take a further twist when his nephew gets involved with Islamic fundamentalists. He walks around the film with a face that would make Victor Meldrew feel proud.

The cast could have been stronger, yet as always, Om Puri (East is East) puts in a strong performance, as do Gulshan Grover and Laila Rouass.

If you are tired of hearing and seeing the same boring stories related to every Muslim being a terrorist as the media would have you believe, then save your money, as this may not be for you.
