The Shogunate has been killed that leaves two sons to take control: Lemitusu (the older) and Tangada (the younger), according to tradition Lemitsu should become the next Shogunate but because half his face is red and he stammers many members of the Shogunate do not want him, they want Tanagada who is handsome and popular. Luckily for Lemitsu he has Yaghu on his side who is clever, trustworthy and powerful. Each side tries to get as many troops on their side in order to take control.
The middle part of the film is made up of ambushes and fights but no battle scenes which is disappointing since there is war on. The film still remains exciting throughout until last 30 minutes where Lemitsu is turns from man fighting for his right to rule to nasty tyrant which is unbelievable and I felt he was changed in order for the audience to have sympathy for younger brother who is made out like some sort of faux holy man who doesn't want the throne. Yaghu at the same time is turned from man fighting for tradition to scheming and murdering for no reason he turned into an evil character.
There is also a silly sub-plot involving prince Tanagada in love with dancing woman. The characterisation feels rushed and we don't really get to know the characters and I didn't really care for any of them because they were badly drawn. What was the most dissapointing was towards the end Lemitsu and Yaghu's motives are simplfied to power hungry and evil when before they were not presented like that. The only highpoints are the music, the brief fight scenes and gripping power struggle story but ultimately it doesn't live up to it's epic premise.
