Synopsis

This is what the BBC does best, children's adaptations. Like The Narnia Chronicles I watched as a child, this series has had me on the edge of my seat every week. My daughters and I have been eargerly awaiting the next episode on TV and the DVD is an ideal christmas present.
Superbly casted it encapsulates a childs feeling of detachment from society as well as the magic of innocence. On an adult level the humour is subtle and memorable, the voices of the animals brilliantly done and so apt to their characters.
A must see for the whole family.

My 12 year old son and I have thoroughly enjoy the 1st series of shoebox zoo. The good guys are very good but the bad guys are a bit weak which does make it slightly less convincing. None the less a 5 * is still deserved in rating this dvd. The combining of old and new is well thought out. I personally have a problem with Marnie's attitude but she is comtempory!? The zoo characters are beautiful and give my son drawing material and imagination fuel. We are looking forward to the next series.

I bought this DVD for my father as a Christmas present as he was so hooked on the series. My 2 year old daughter thinks it is pretty fantastic too! The storyline keeps you guessing right until the end and the special effects are good. It's a bit like a cross between "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and "Box of Delights" only better. By the end of Series 1 you are convinced you know all the answers - only there is a sting in the tale! Roll on Series 2!
