Product Description

From the Label

Armin van Buuren delivers his first album Shivers for Nebula, a ten-track collection ranging from breaks to trance to techno to downtempo. Building on the success of his previous 76 album, Shivers shows how Armin has developed as a producer and reflects experiences gained from two years of global DJing.

Shivers features some brilliant vocal and production collaborations with notable highlights including Zocalo a co-production with US producers Gabriel & Dresden with a superb melodic track that lies in the current vogue area of trance meets house. Not to be outdone, fellow Dutch producers DJ Remy and Roland Klinkenberg get together with Armin for a tougher edged mid-tempo techno workout "Bounce Back". Vocal collaborations also include long time Armin vocalist Justine Suissa on dirty breaks track "Wall Of Sound", Ray Wilson (another long termer) on rolling progressive breaks track "Gypsy", IO’s (Ministry Of Sound) Nadia Ali on the chilled "Who Is Watching", Martijn Hagens on equally laid back tale of female induced woe "Golddigger" and finally Mic Burns on uplifting tech trancer "Empty State".

Armin also teams up with celebrated composer Jan Vayne on Serenity which is the theme to the massive Sensation party in Holland this year. Shivers is more than just a trance album but rather, displays all the signs of an accomplished piece of electronic music refusing to be pigeonholed.

Format:Audio CD
Armin van Buuren certainly offers an interesting and lively stance to the trance genre in 2006, and all of his songs show inspiration and uniqueness. I heard Shivers (the song) first on his outstanding album 'State of Trance 2005' that he mixed to perfection, and thought to myself that I must get Shivers the album.
However, to say that Shivers is the best track is an understatement. This version of the song Shivers is sensational, and as uplifting as any 90s style trance you have ever heard. But in my opinion, for what it's worth, I don't feel the same uplifting and fantastic feeling that I get when listening to Shivers. Sure, all tracks offer something different, and often something quite powerful; Serenity and Empty State being two examples, but I was a little disheartened not have a few more tracks in the style that Shivers is in. This may be purely down to personal taste though, I grant you.
I think aside from Shivers, I would recommend Golddigger. It is quite different from anything else I have ever heard, and the vocals by Martijn Hagens are very powerful.
Despite my obvious criticism, this is still an album that I would recommend to trance lovers, and I appreciate anyone in this era who contiunes to persist making this genre of music despite is dying popularity in the mainstream.
Worth a listen.

Rival to Tiesto 13 Sep 2005
Format:Audio CD
Getting better and better, Armin propels this album into the world of trance with emphasis on glorious vocals, stirng harmonies and catchy melodies. Starting off with the enchanting Wall of Sound and retro baseed empty state, Armin adds some sampled sounds and beats the likes of which vocal trance is not accompanied to. Shivers track impresses in a big way with an almost regal quality and stand up to its name. Goldigga slows the pace a little with some great downtempo trance and the vocals of Martijn Hagens whose voice encompasses everything good of the 1980's. Zocalo follows on with a fabulous stomping tune built around 'Kill Bill esque' vibes. Track 7, Who is Watching is a great catchy number and will no doubt be incorporated into many vocal trance mixes to come thanks largely to Nadia Ali stunning vocals.

Finally, a perfect and accomplished end to an extremely impressive album, Armin bows things out with Serenity a tune which stand should to shoulder with Tiestos Adagio for Strings giving Tiesto's Just BE a strong run for its money. Big thumbs up for a tip top trance/vocal trance album which put Armin van Buuren on a pedestal of my favourite DJs of trance alongside the god DJ tiesto!

WRONG SELECTION 8 Sep 2005
Format:Audio CD
The major problem with this album is not the quality of the tracks (some are really good) but many of the songs I expected to see here are nowhere to be found. Shivers (vocal version of Birth of an angel)was already published on a single and on the latest Armin mix cd, so why he didn' t include Birth of an angel instead? (this track is available only to download). Communication pt. 3 is beautiful (especially the version with Jan Vayne at the piano), but is not featured here and is unavailable elsewhere.
Simple things (with Justine Suissa) is another song available only for download.
Serenity, the version here is exactly the same featured on the single and not the longer one he played at Sensation.
Hymne (bonus track at the end) is featured as a 2.30 minutes long classical piece that is nice but simply useless, the club version is much better.
And then here' s the major disappointment for me:
I' ve heard the live performance of Armin and Jan Vayne at Sensation white and what Jan did with the piano over Serenity and Communication pt.3 was simply outstanding...well...in this cd there' s no true piano contribution by Jan, with such a composer at hand that' s really a silly waste.
I hope in some future release of those tracks.
