Product Description

Product Description

This insightful and often hilarious romp charts the dramatic ups and downs of Tottenham Hotspur, as seen through the eyes of one of its most unlikely heroes: Roy Reyland, the local kit man who served the club for almost thirty years. From inside the dressing room and on the bench, Roy has witnessed the agony and the ecstasy of three decades of seasons at Tottenham Hotspur. He looked after Spurs' famous lilywhite shirts for an incredible 1,397 matches, home and away, including 12 dramatic cup finals. Working under 17 managers - from Keith Burkinshaw to Martin Jol - he visited Wembley more times than many of the brightest stars of the Premiership. And, of course, he worked closely with some of White Hart Lane's greatest ever players - from Ardiles and Gazza to Klinsmann and Ginola. As the club's unofficial agony aunt, Roy has seen the tears and the triumphs, the dressing-room pranks, and has a unique insight into the inner workings of the legendary Premiership side. He has seen it all, and his story is one of total devotion to the club.

Great book, buy it ! 20 Oct 2010
Format:Hardcover
I was a bit wary when I first bought this book but those fears dissappeared on reading the first few pages. This is a very interesting book for all Spurs fans giving a real insight into the players and characters from Tottenham over the last 25 years or so. Written by a real Spurs 'hero', it has its funny moments recalling the tales of a certain Mr.Gascoigne and stories of Bill Nick and the old guard at Tottenham. A 'not to be missed' book for any Tottenham die-hard supporter.

Top Spur!!! 26 Jan 2011
By Hunski
Format:Hardcover
Being a spurs fan I'd have to agree with the other reviews in that this is a very good book. Roy, is a die-hard fan and his love for the club and all things THFC really comes through as does his loyalty having worked at N17 for many years. He's even played for the club a couple of times and scored a goal set up by George Best of all people!!! You'll have to buy the book to find out how that came about!!!! If you're looking for scandal and back stabbing behind closed doors at White Hart Lane this is NOT the book for you. However, if like me you were just looking for a good gentle read and humourous stories relating to the club, then buy this book.

What a pleasant change, an Autobiography with real life stories from a popular back room member of a football clubs staff. I would imagine Roy Reyland's memories could be applicable to many long serving club stalwarts the length of the country. All with a tale to tell and from the real behind the scenes perspective. Obviously this story of a groundsman to kit man in nearly 3 decades at a famous club will be of special interest to Tottenham Hotspur fans, but should equally appeal to football fans of any club who has an unsung hero. If you are not a Spurs fan replace Ginola, Sheringham, Les Ferdinand and Hoddle with your own club legends, but where Reyland has the edge is there is only one Paul Gascoigne. A thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable read coming at the usual football autobiography from another angle, and from this reviewer, highly recommended.
